xf5f Grumman Skyrocket
I am thinking sombody out there knows the answer to this question. I am looking for plans for a Grumman Skyrocket. I have been unable to find anything through my search so I figured I would try to employ some help from readers here at RC Universe. I am looking to build something in the G23 / 26 or G38 size range. I saw a magazine article on one years ago, I am guessing 97 or 98 but I can't seem to find the magazine in my vast (messy) collection. For those unfamiliar the Skyrocket was a twin engine test bed built by Gramman that looked like and bulldog with wings. The twin radials stuck out in front of the front of the fuse and it had a tail like an ercoupe or B24 with a little dihedral in it. I have read that it was one of the fastest prop driven planes ever produced. If you know of anyone who has a good set of plans for this aircraft please let me know.
Thanks

You were close on the website but right on that they have plans, thanks for the quick response! http://www.clevelandairline.com/ASP/PRODUCT.asp
Have you ever used their plans? Whats the quality like and how are they to build from.

Hello 103/17,
Sorry for the misinformation on the website,
I have not seen any of cleveland's plans, all i know is that they have quite a slection of models that we don't see often,
some of which are offered in multiple scales, I would have to assume that Cleveland Plans are as good as most, & should not pose
too big of a hurdle for a builder,
Their was a Grumman Skyrocket RTF on RCU a while back, it may have been 1/5 scale, it had two gas engines,
Hope this helps, 51-D GUY.

In 1989 I already explore the world for scale documentation. From Grumman historical department I received some blue prints and photo's . I re-scaled a drawing which was published for to .46 engines.
Because I switch to turbine models I not interested so if somebody wants it perhaps we can make a deal.
Greetings Ray
What is it worth for you?
I am searching for doc. of the grumman A-6A Interuder so perhaps swapping against a book or a set of goodplans (I can't find them other then ebay) of the A-6.

HI In another forum on the subject of the RC Grumman XF5F - 1 Skyrocket, they said you could order plans from Flying Molders, catalog number CF386. I contacted them as they do not have it listed in their list of plans but they had it full scale. There was a build published article, around 1975 if my memory serves me correctly. The plan is drawn by Nick Ziroli and the article was written by Nick Ziroli too. It is one sheet plan and was designed around using the Wankel engines. The WS is 58 inches, and the plan says it can be powered with 2 - .29/.40 cu. Inches. The plans says the cowls are fiberglass and the canopy can be ordered from ”Major Model & MFG. <street><address>29 Edgar Drive</address></street>, <place>Smithtown</place> , NY., 1187. I have not checked this out. The plan is NOT dimensioned but does have a scale bar. The cost for the plan was $11, copy of the build article, $3, shipping was $8 in a tube mailer.
Here is another set of plans that I found reference to. "Flying Models magazine had a construction article in 2005 for an 89" span XF5F-1 with a pair of 38cc engines. Go to their website and look in their r/c plan catalog, page 33, plan CD254." I have emailed Flying Models to find out info on the plans.
As far as Nick Ziroli's plans go, I just got them yesterday and have not dwelled on them. I would like to know how to mount two electrics and their sizes. Also I would like to know how to mount two Nitro engines in his plans. If you make your own control horns for the rudders, Like would appreciate any info you experience with them.
If you contact the company about the canopy, please let me know what they say.
Best regards
I would expect it to take at least a month to finish. RIGHT!!
Getting the engine nacells and enginesparallel in all directions is going to be the tough part.
