Default RE: TMMY Scale Composites 35% scale Cessna

Finally! The waiting is Over!
Today I picked up my new TMMY 35% Cessna182 Skylane. It is finished in the 2009 521E Gold color scheme.
Aside from the usual minor imperfections in a new hand made plane, it's an amazing reproduction and I'm pretty happy.
And man is it BIG. As always pictures can't show a planes true size, you have to see it to believe it.
Whomever packed it put the heavy nose wheel and some other parts inside the interior of the plane and it knocked the seats off the floor mounts and broke off a head rest (glue joint).
Easy fixes but they should keep heavy parts out of the interior when shipping.
I need to get some sleep so I'm only going to post a few pics for now, but I will make an Un-Boxing video tomorrow from some video I shot today and post a link then.

Style Fly, on my plane the flap area is finished and has a switch installed. I have not had time to look at the engine mounting box and thrust angles.

Hey Sal,

The flap wells look like yours did, unfinished with right angles. I don't think I'm gonna fiberglass the curved piece in like you did, I'm not an expert glasser, yours came out nice. I wish Tommy kept it finished like they used to be. There is also a switch on one wing in the flap well, what the heck is that? I guess so the landing lights only come on when the flaps are down, I kind of wanted to hook the lights to receiver channels so I could switch them on and off at will. The engine box looks the same as yours so I guess it has the same thrust angle, but I will probably have to rework it or scratch build a new box for the engine I want to use anyway.

Tim, Your flap aera is finished with the curved fiberglass piece and has a switch? How did he fit the switch in there with the curve, is there a cut out? Can you post a picture of that side?

Sal, I wonder if maybe Tommy changed the flap hinge so they don't drop way down like they used to. I was looking at pics of real 182's and it doesn't look like they drop down like that. It really just looks like he turned the hinge around. I think I'm ok with it this way.

Yep, Nice finished flap pocket. Hinges bolt to the wing instead of like the newerwings which bolt to the flap. He even notched it out for the switch. I wish Tommy still fiberglassed the pocket round like that. No biggie I guess.

Thanks for the Pic's

Well i have to say im a-little upset that thier was a choice on flap style- i would have got the one Funinucrary and Mariohave- i love how it comes down off the wing - thats what sold me on this kit was the flaps -other then its size..........on the other note: Spider make a good point that on a real 182 the flaps do not slide down like tommys fisrt set - the 2nd issue flaps are a more scale representation of how they operate.........so ill deal with them- how great is it that my problems in life have to do with the wings on my RC cessna -i love this hobby..................

Sal, I don't think there was a choice on the flaps or the pockets in the wing, I just think it was a design change at some point in time. We just happened to get planes that were made after the design change was implemented. Usually manufactures make design changes to improve something that has shown to be a weak spot or a problem of some kind. It could be the case with the hinges being switched 180 degrees. Obviously company's sometimes make changes to save time / materials to increase profit, which would seem like the case with the wing flap pocket not being finished now. It would certainly seem that the wing is not as strong in that area now without that curved fiberglass piece on there. Since you can't see the wing flap pocket as it's underneath the wing, maybe TMMY figured why spend the extra time to finish that area if no one sees it anyway.
I too am a little disappointed they changed that spot but I'm trying to tell myself "don't worry about it, no one will see it" even though it does bother me a little. Your right though, that's not such a big problem in life but it does sting a little. Anyway you did a nice job retrofitting yours.

Hey what tires are you using in the plane.

I called Tommy last week for any one other there looking at ordering a plane you can ask him for the old style motor mount and the finish off the flaps as well. He is doing that on my new bird. I also asked him to give me the old flap design as well which seemed to work a-ok. Not sure why the change he did not tell me. But it is always good to talk to Tommy and see what is new at the shop.

I'm really starting to get excited about this plane now that I've started working on it. It is so cool and realisticly scale, I'm thinking of some of the scale things I want to do with it to make it stand out like Mario and some of you other guys have. I'll need moremoney. lol
I'm posting some pics of stuff I've started working on. I reworked the landing gear gromets where they meet the fuse and the wheel pants to fit better, a bit of a pain but I'll be glad later.
Anyway here ar some pics below.

These are the flap hinges, I guess I have to glue them in my self.
Don't the antennas have the wire part at the end? Do I drill holes in the end and put my own in?
Anyone knowwhat the parts in the last picture are? Did they mistakenly give me some DC3 parts?

Hey Spider
My antenna came the same way. The first set I had I tried to drill and they cracked pertty bad. The second set I jut CA a wire to the top of each. The other parts you got are you rudder peddels a pair of each and the other part is the lower half of the dash. It should fit in the center right in the middle.

Ok T-shark here is the story with the engine mount the 1st mount Tommy sent i noticed the down thrust int it , and at the time i had Marios red Cessna at my house to compaire it and realized it could not work-so i called Tommy and he said hell send me a new oneabout 2 weeks later i got the new one and put it together and it was the same one i already had-so i called Tommy agian and sent him photos to show him ,the down thrust and he then said "ok the new mount has down thrust in it -please send me back both mounts and ill send you the right one" so i mailed back boyh mounts and i got the 3rd one 2 weeks later and YET IT WAS STILL THE SAME TYPE.
So i called Tommy agian and he said they dont produce that mount anymore and if i want it i have to pay around $400.00 for it- (WHAT?) and then sent me drawings of how the mount will looki was so frusrtated i just keep the old mount and modified it.... so you must have a special connection with Tommy to get the old flaps and engine mount

Thanks Tim. See, you should have sold me yours!LOL
I'm glad now that you decidedto keepyours because I never would have researched and found this gold 2009 color scheme.
I still like the blue a lot and the red too, they all look good on this plane.

OK The gear is on and its on all 3 wheels - as you see we used a larger fender washer to screw down on the gear- and also we decided to cut the cowl for the exhaust and let the pipes show in-stead of the flex tube- i like the sporty looks of the exhaust exposed......

Looking good. You should have her ready for flight by this weekend. But I have one question why did you cut the exhaust out of the bottom of the cowl. You could have kept her nice and clean, routing it out of the cowl flap.
