Thanks Spidernad for the info. I currently fly a Hanger 9 Taylorcraft with a DLE 30cc. so the setup is pretty basic. I'm a NiCad user and don't really prefer the lipo or NiMH packs. With this plane I would like to use dual 3000mAh NICad battery packs with dual switches. Do you see a problem with this? Also, I thought about your flap speed problem. What about Hitec Digitals. You can buy a programmer and slow the speed that way. Oh,I want the 2009 red color scheme.
Hey Mike,

I was stubborn about switching over to Lipo/LiIon batteries but when I got my 50% Edge I set it up as Bill Hempel recommended and used the Fromeco "Relion" Lithium Ion (LiIon) batteries. Now I can't see how I ever lived without them! They hold a charge forever. But I understand they likely cost more and you may need a diffrent charger, so I understand if you want to stay with the NiCads. Definitely using dual batteries for redundancy is the way to go with big models. The setup you mentioned sounds fine, this plane only uses around 8 servos and they don't have to work very hard like a 3D plane so you don't need crazy high mAh batteries. I went with two 2600mAh Relions and a SmartFly Sport Reg, but there are some really inexpensive BEC's out there now that would probably be fine.

Oh, and I had thought about that Hitec servo solution for the flaps too, I may still go that way but I already spent money on servos and would need one of those programmers but we'll see.

And the 2009 Red color scheme is really nice, that was my initial choice then I ultimately went with the Gold but I like them all really.

Hi Dan,
Who did you order the props from? Do you have a part number?

Thanks,
Mike

They are made by Biela in Poland.
I got them from Gerhard at Aircraft International, he is their dealer here in the U.S.
Give him a call, 732-761-0997 (if he doesn't answer make sure to leave a quick message with your phone number, telling him you want to place an order and he'll call right back,) and tell him you want the Biela 28x12 3-blade prop, painted like the full scale Cessna "McCauley" prop WITH THE McCAULEY DECALS ON THE PROP. You can tell him the same as the two Dan from New Jersey just ordered, he should remember that. I posted a pic below that I had emailed to him to make sure there was no mistake. Some guys got these props (from someone else)but they didn't have the decals, that's why you have to be clear.

Dan

Hi Martin,

I remember tracking my plane's journey across the ocean too, so much anticipation!

The spinner is 4 inches. There is more info on what type I chose and why in the below post link.

How long did it take to get a quote for shipping?I'm not having much luck with that. And were you able to choose your port of entry? I live in Georgia, and don't want my plane arriving in San Francisco.

If you bought the plane directly from Tommy he will provide you with a quote. I have had all 3 of mine shipped air. It comes directly to Atlanta airport then customs takes there sweet time. If you gave it shipped sea it will either go to the port in either Miami or Savannah. You will still have to have it trucked up to you. Plus unless you have s freight broker you will need to walk it through customs. My new one I hope will be in Atlanta next week. If you have any questions pm or email me.

Sometimes Tommy takes a couple days or more to answer emails, depending on if they are on holiday or something. They have diffrent holidaysover there.

Hi Dan,

thanks for the spinner info, i asked Tommy regard how much the trust of the engine should be, he replied that if it produces more then 15 kilos (33Lbs) of trust it should be ok. the DLE-111 produces 56 Lbs of trust, so i think it has more then enough trust.
i sent an e-mail to spinner Dave Brown to see if they have a 4 inch spinner for a Biela 24 by 10 three blade prop. hope he replies yes.

best regards

Martin.

Wow George, I must say that looks really really good! You and Howard Davidson with the Coast Guard plane have some really unique planes.
The tail stripeing is slightly different then the full scale but it looks good that way.

I see another Coast Guard plane in the background, I guess someone else is getting one.

Sounds like that engine will be fine then.

They definitely can make the spinner cuts.
Here is the link for the 4" custom cut spinner. www.dbproducts.com/store/custU240.htmJust fill in the info you want ( 3-blade, Biela 24x10 etc.)
So that engine takes a 24x10? Might look a little small on the plane but who knows.

Yea there are still a few things on the plane not quite right, but all in all I can live with it. I sent the pics over to the CAP office for public affairs that I have been working with. They loved it and want to see more of it when it is done and flying. I am looking at doing an article for them as well which may be a cross over for the AMA mag as well. Being that the two have partner-up together.
Got an email form Tommy this evening plane should be ready for shipment, packed by the end of the week. So that may means I could have it here as soon as next wed-fri.

These are great engine kill switches and can also be used to turn on lights or anything else remotely from your radio.
They are made by Rcexl, the same company that makes those quality ignition systems.
They also have a nice LED light with a holding fixture so you can put it right in your dashboard etc. to see when itis active.
I tried some cheep HobbyKing ones first but they were not what I had hoped for.

I found this place, Mile High RC thathas the bestprice on them @15.99. http://milehighrc.com/switch.html

I am not sure if he did or not. I had asked him to make sure that this was done when I placed my order. Once I get her here I will let you guys know. What does you new paint scheme look like?

I am hoping that with the new and brighter paint scheme and all the antenas hanging off the bottom, she will end up in several of the magazines this year. Plus with the camera set up in the plane I am looking at having a monitor set up at my tent so you can watch the flight from inside the plane and see the pilots and yokes move. I am going to try and hit several of the larger events this year with her. WOD, Monster Planes etc. Just have to see how this flying year pans out.

I have a question for everyone. Has anyone tried using anything under 300oz+ tourqe on your flight surface and stearing servos. I used HS-7955TG's on my last one. I have some 160oz+ servos here any ideas from the crownd.

Martin
I T'ed my fuel line and just ran it out to the bottom of the cowl near where the nose gear comes in. There are some drain tubes there on the full scale you can simulate if you are going for a scale look. Or you could always be bold and run your fuel filler for the scale location on the top the wing. you will just need a plug when you take the wings off. I have thought about it and could could be done very easy.

Thanks George, we are on the same page as i already thought of doing something similar. i am looking at 3W fuel filler system and thought it would be good to do something like it to be a scale look alike. i was just just looking on marinetraffic.com tracking my shipment funnily enough the ship just passed our island Malta on the way to Valencia, should be here next Monday can't wait to unbox and start assembling it.

cheers

OK, I got the steering gismo worked out. Came out better than I thought it would on the first try.
It was a bit of a strain on my little brain but I'm glad I did it.

Enjoy,
