RE: TMMY Scale Composites 35% scale Cessna

OK today Mario and I did the first flight of the Cessna - All went great - However after Mario landed and taxied back to the pits we saw that the wing strut pulled right out of the fuse..... Now the same thing happened to Mario's red cessna - so I would suggest that you upgrade the strut joint in the fuse- Tommy only used a threaded dowl - it needs to be a blind nut from behind the fuse with a flat wood in between- otherwise a great first flight and start of the season...... Has anyone had this problem with there cessna? please let me know - o yeah very nice GPS i love it

RE: TMMY Scale Composites 35% scale Cessna

I have built Cessnas in the past and yes you are correct. On the inside the fuse use 1/8 ply and epoxy it in place over the area where the strut is to be placed. Drill out the hole in the ply just enough so that the blind nut will fit inside tlhe hole. Next insert the blind nut until it is flush in the wood. Then take some thin CA and wick it around the edges of the blind nut. This will help hold the blind nut in place. VERY IMPORTANT: MAKE SURE YOU ARE USING A REGULAR WASHER AND A LOCK WASHER!!! The reguar washer will sit up against the outside of the fuse and the lock washer sits on top of the regular washer. This method works extremely well and you never have to worry about any of the strut screws coming loose.

RE: TMMY Scale Composites 35% scale Cessna

Good tip Saul. I had my strut pull out at monster planes the year before last. You can see it pop lose in the vid. It does not effect the flying of the plane in fact we never knew it came lose. The bolts hold the wing in place pretty well. But it is just more weight the tube and the bolts have to carry. The blind nut does work quite well an it is not hard to do. You only need to do the ones on the fuse the ones in the wing are fine.

All of my steps are made.....yea. Now just need to put the ones on the wing struts and I think I am going to call it done for now. Still more stuff to do but I am done for today.

I love the key chain GPS - looks awesome. How do you turn it on and off once in the dash? aren't the switches on the back.

Hey guys, you are scaring me with struts coming out and the like! I just ordered one.... that's why the Aussie dollar has crashed [:@]

Tommy said "I will get you the new 35% C182 version, open cowling" what does open cowling mean?? 2 piece?? anyone got this? I hope it is still scale!

Just a long shot .... has anyone done one electric?

It's actually more scale, the hood opens like the real one.

Hey I want the new 2 piece cowl....... its very scale to the year of the paint scheme as well - Hey Parrot Girl dont be scared of the wing strut its a very easy up-grade with a blind nut just as discussed in the last few post.... if you look to the left and right in the photos there is a painted black block to the left and right of the circle cut wood former and there you will put the blind nut and small wood base... congrats on the new Cessna

RE: TMMY Scale Composites 35% scale Cessna

Hey parrot girl and other readers of the 35% Cessna. The opening hoods are scale however on the ones I have seen they are Dzus fastened on and do not hinge at the top. Maybe some models do that I'm not aware of. I can send you a photo Parrot girl but you'll need to give me your email address as I can't paste the stupid thing. I have also ordered one and on the day of the price rise and there seems to be an issue with that at the moment but I'm sure we will resolve it. My new 27% with the scale Fowler flaps is in paint at the moment and hopefully Tommy will finish it in the next month or so. The thing I would like to see changed on the 35% aircraft is the very un-scale wheel pants and wheel combination as it is nowhere near scale and does spoil it's look. The 27% deal is fine. The other thing is the nose wheel strut needs to rake forward as the 35% Cessna appears to be perpendicular to the firewall and once again is not scale and lends itself to damage on a not so perfect landing. What do you guys think?

I beg to differ.......the Cessna 182 TC has a larger wheel pant (i use to think the same thing that they were to big) but when I was up close to a 2009 182 TC I saw that the wheel pants are larger JUST LIKETOMMYs- as far as the nose wheel strut the angle can be adjusted with washers and the strut itself can be adjusted... here are some photos of a 2009 Cessna TC ____ Hey Parrot Girl Check out the cowl it has the screws in it just like Tommys new Cowl...........

Hey mate, nice pics. Take some of your model from the same angles and post them as I'd like to compare. Every Tommy 35%Cessna that I have seen doesn't look right in that area and in particular the nose wheel and pant. Perhaps it is just the photo's not sure maybe your photo's will clarify it.

I have Dan at details 4 scale making me a set. I put the ones I had on the plane for now. Being my new ones have not gotten here yet. He also makes the static discharge lines as well. I just sent Tommy an email to get a new unpaint cowl. This will make adjusting the motor easier being I don't cut my cowl. The cowl and engine do stay cool enough without chopping it up. Also heads up check you windscreen screws. The bottom ones on this new plane were too short. Plus the holes in the hood were drilled to large. The vibration from the engine ripped the glue loose. This caused the one screw that was holding to start spliting the windscreen. And these screens are no fun to try and get out as they are well glued in at the top. Just not the bottom.
Well it is off to Joe Nall later today see you there

    Hi Parrot girl & all

I have attached some pics with the gps installed. as for switching on and off, i made the it fit very tightly just push fit so when i need to switch it on or charge it i just slide it out. i also ran to my work shop and fitted the blind nuts instead of the one Tommy installed after hearing some bizarre events that have happened. i think all the wood structure on this model is of poor quality and needs some reinforcements especially where the front fuse attaches to the rear fuse.

    [img][/img]

i am working on another job inside the cockpit at the moment..............will show it at a later stage.

    mny happy landings

Well the first day here at Joe Nall has been great. I got the cessna unloaded an had several people come up to wanting to know who makes the plane an where can they get one. Lots of photos of it today. Plane looks to be pretty well received. Got my maid flight out of the way on it today. No real issues just some trim changes. I ripping out one strut yesterday when checking the cg. I fixed it last night but it came out again. So this one will have to get the blind nuts after the flyin. But other than that another great flying cessna from Tommy. I will post some video and pics when I get back on Saturday.
