Hi all,
Has been a long time since I checked into this thread.
Have just recently performed a 100 hourly on my TMMY Cessna and changed over the radio gear to JR DMSS taking advantage of the XBUS functions with JR Xport Duo 14 channel power bus and two Xbus RG031BX receivers and telemetry sensors.
I have also removed the original Optotronix Nightfire lighting unit and replaced this with the more compact Aurora Evo 2 unit.
The batteries have also been replaced as I have owned and operated this plane since Dec 2008.
I am also pleased to hear Parrot Girl received her Cessna although late, but eventually. Looking forward to having both of our Cessna's flying together at a scale meet in the near future

Hi Guys ,
I just received my cessna and have started building
Most of it goes together quickly .
One area Im not happy with is how to install 2 servos for elevator , I tried mounting 2 servos in side by side configuration but then the stab doesn't slide in because the servos touch the top of the fuse.
Also the Alu elevator clamps/control horns that came with the kit do not clamp onto the 6mm elevator shaft securely.
Any idea how to make this work?
Im thinking of installing a Rotomotor 170 as well , does this motor mount onto the original motor mount or is there some modification required ?

Yes Saul ,
It fits loose on the shaft , even fully tightened the control arm rotates freely.
Also the shaft is offset from the rotational axis of the control surface , so once its connected to the servo /s the geometry is not correct.
You have the entire control arm moving Up and Down rather than in a single rotational axis/plane
Will try to post a video later

I got my new plane in a week or two ago. I finally pulled it out to start building it. Some good changes. But the paint finish is terrible. I have had 4 of these now and this one has got to be by far the worst paint finish I have ever had. I talked to Tommy and he told me he had a new paint person.
I have not looked completely at the elevator section yet but I will check it out today. I did see he has gone to a 2 servo setup now. The single servo setup was fine, not sure why the change. Also the functional trim tab is also gone. Not happy with that. So as I said some good some bad.

3 thoughts:
First thought, reach out to Tommy and see if he will replace it.
2nd thought: As far as the control arm not fitting on the rod use a hollow piece of aluminum rod from K&S and fit it over the rod. You may have to epoxy the hollow rod in place if a friction fit will not hold it in place.
3rd thought: You may have to insert a new rod into the elevator. This one would have to be thicker and inline with a neutral pivot point so the rod only rotates and does not move up and down. The position of the rod should be located along the hinge line.

As for the shaft not being centered, welcome to the TMMY Cessna! Or perhaps you don't have your hinge pins in far enough in or too far out. (the hinge pins pivot has to be in line with the center of the elevator shaft)
Also, the servos faced down not up on my stab, did they change that or are you putting the stab in upside down?
Looks like from your pictures that the fuse is now one piece (not split in the middle)?

Ok
I got some new Alu control arms machined , I also added a small grub screw to tighten on to a flat spot on the shaft to lock it down securely
Servos could be mounted either facing up or down , though i would have ideally preferred to have them mounted sideways. This is not possible because it is not possible to slide the stab into the slot with the servos installed sideways.

Hi Guys ,
Elevator /linkages are done , How much throw do I set it up for ?
I am going to be using the 3W 220B4 4-cylinder, has anybody used this engine or similar ?
Id like some information on the modification that may be required to the Motor mount .
Thanks

Xantos unless you just have it sitting around, you don't need that large of an engine. Most everyone uses a DA 150. It is more then enough power and no modifications needed. Throw wise max throw but you won't need it all. Remember this is a Cessna not an aerobatic plane. It flies like a trainer. Unless you reinforce the airframe you can over stress it.

Hi
I had a 4cyl lying around
I know it'll be grossly overpowered , will have to be careful with the throttle
Any ideas on mounting ? should I start with the standard engine box that came with the kit and trim it down as required ?

See my following post for how I solved the clamp issue. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/gian...l#post10711774

Thanks for the pics Spider
Pretty clear what I need to do .
Im going to have to trim off about 55mm from the lower part of the box

Spider after trimming down the engine box where did you put the fuel tank ?
By The Way how did you guys find the thrust line or a centre line reference point for locating the engine ?
Did you just line up the crankshaft opening in the cowl ?
There is no marking at all on the firewall just wondering

And as for the engine placement. I stood the plane up on the flat surface where the tail section attaches to and set the engine box and engine on there, then put the cowl on and moved the engine and box around until the prop shaft and the prop backplate were centered with the cowl opening. Then removed the cowl (being careful not to bump the engine out of place) and then marked the box and firewall for the bolt hole locations. Before all that though, I put the cowl on first and measured the distance from the front of the cowl to the firewall to find out how long the box and engine would need to be to make the prop backplate space just right. I can't tell you how many times I checked and measured to make sure I was certain before cutting the box.
I planed to make a long video with all my build info but I've just been so busy with work etc. Someday I hope...

I made a stand for the fuel tanks. Here are some pics. I realize there are a million ways to do all this stuff, this is just what worked for me. You may find a simpler/better way to do your's, I'm just posting this stuff for ideas.
