finishing
I'm finishing up a 30% Waco covered with Nelson Lite-Fab and want to have a shiny yet flexible finish. I want to use automotive Basecoat/clear coat but don't have experience with the process. Do I prime over the fabric, if so with what? Any help appreciated. Mitch

RE: finishing
Hi, I have a 33% Waco YMF% that I covered with the Stits Polyfiber system. You can use the paint form this site with your covering. It is a polyurathan based coating system that is designed for fabric. It will never get brittel. To see the system go to this link..... http://www.stits.com/
The system has a base silver coat you can use if you wish. I have used it but I really don't think it is required on models. I did not use it on my 33% Stearman and the finish came out just fine. I do recommend that after the first color coat you wet sand it with #360-400 sand paper before spraying on the last color coat. If you want a more glossy finish then spray on a coat of clear. If you do sand make sure you use very light pressure on the sand paper as it will cut through the fabric if you are near rib edges or other supporting frame work. But it makes the final coat of color look great.
