Giant Scale Transport
I need help, let me tell you the story. I have been flying large scale aircraft for a number of years but recently the wife did the number on me. A while back she decided that she would like to start camping as I had retired and we would have more time. Also have a dog and it is easier camping then going to hotels. Well we bought a medium size camper and a nice pickup. We also had a nice SUV that I used for the planes. Then she decided that she would rather have a sedan instead of the SUV. No problem, I can use the pickup for the planes. Then she decided the camper was too small and wanted a fifth wheel. We now have this gimongous camper and the hitch is dead center in the bed and I can't get Patty in there to take to the field.
Does anyone have any good ideas (short of burning or selling the plane) on a setup to get the plane to the field?
Thanks,
maddieone

I agree withthe standard trailer and hitch
A different Wife out of the question?????
You could always scale this up from "China Scale" to "USA Scale"

You can also buy a fifth wheel hitch that is removable from the bed of the truck. check with camping world. http://www.campingworld.com/shopping...ik-slide/32046 . I had one like this.

I like the trailer suggestion.
After years of toting my giant scale models in my long bed pickup, I purchased a 12' trailer. I can carry more models, with less damage. It also provides added model storage space.

My buddy has a flip ball for his goose neck flat bed. When not is use he can flip it over to make a flat floor in the bed. You should check first if its suitable for a 5'er. He only hauls a 75hp tractor with loader and shreder. Not the weight of a trailer in most cases. I use a bumper hitch on my F350. Told the wife I have to have the truck bed available for airplanes if I travel to events. The truck bed has a shell on it. The trailer stays in the RV park when she is with me and we'll sometimes rent a car so she can tool around the parks or something.

Hey guys thanks for the response. Another trailer or a different hitch would not be practical. The roof rack idea from China just might work. I was sort of hoping that someone had a similar problem and had invented a rack of some sort that could be taken in and out of the bed to carry the planes.

RE: Giant Scale Transport
A couple of boards laid lengthwise inside one side of the bed when towing, then take them out and lay the widthwise across the top of the bed with your models strapped to the new flat bed. put a couple of holes through the boards the put your straps through to tie down your planes. I use a flatbed to transport my giants and just strap them down to the bed with motorcycle type tiedowns. Make sure you pull your elevators up and center your rudder when traveling, or you can test your airframe strength inadvertently. (Don't ask)

Dump the wife. Keep the dog. Loose the trailer.
Q:
You're wife is locked out. She is yelling and pounding on the front door.
The dog is at the back door barking like mad.
Which one do you let in first?
A:
The dog. He'll shut up after you let him in.

I can see your problem. First off Stop calling your plane Patty. Then maybe your wife will allow you to get a motor home, and you can get a trailer to tow behind the truck or the motorhome.
