Hey Guys
I just got some time to get back to building the Cessna, and I am about done LOL.
I have been in no hurry do to work and family and flying other airplanes in my hanger.
But now I am down too just a few more hours and then starting another plane "OF COURSE"
Here are a few pics of the Cargo door latch I made and I made a double fold type access floor for access to the tail bolts and that really works out great.

And if any of you guys have some new pic's of your Cessna, Please post them.
I know you guys all got your's done long before I evan got started on mine, but it is always nice to keep us Cessna Fans up to date!!

Hey Silvers,

I did not get any as my last one went to Wash. state with its new owner. I do still have, in the box, the last one in the US ("disclaimer" as far as I know) I want to build it with the all new RCGF 40cc twin for the power plant. Sadly I have five other projects on the bench in front of it so it will be a good while before I can get started.

I've been flying mine for about two years now, it's always fun and a big hit at the field.

I agree with Capt, Looks Great!! FJRrider
What size engine did you install?
I noticed you didn't open the cowl up for cooling and that is one of my concerns. I was wondering if the provided bottom opening is enough to cool my inverted engine.

Thanks! Silvers. For power I installed a DLE 55 it has nice scale like flight characteristics, seems perfect for the Cessna. I've included a photo of the cowling, the best one I could find on my computer anyway, before I cut off the exhaust pipes, the cowling may be opened up a little more than it appears on the first photo, also I cut the cowling and created lower louvers at the bottom tailing edge of the cowl. I've never noticed the engine being hot after a flight, in fact have touched it just after flight, seemed fine. If you'd like any other photos, or info just let me know. Just one bit of info I might share, if you are installing the fuel tank in the nose like I did, balance it about 2/3 full of fuel or it's going to be nose heavy. Have fun with it.

FJRider

Are you saying that you balanced your Cessna with gas in the tank ?

Yep, I know it sounds crazy but all that fuel is heavy, I fly about 15-18 min each flight the DLE55 just doesn't use that much fuel, and that 32oz tank in the nose is just too much weight to balance it in the normal way. Flew it today fly's great.

I like the ideal of cutting the louvers in like that. I know from trial and error over the years that having enough opening for air flow to exit is a must, I will do the same on mine!!
And I do believe you about the CG with some fuel in it because in alot of 3D planes the tank is mounted at the CG so their won't be much differance in the flight characteristics though out the whole flight.
But I will have a hard time doing that one because I am old school LOL
From what I can see it also looks like you installed some yokes in yours as well and are those inflatable tires you have on there?
Looks great and glad to hear that you are still getting flights in with yours!!

I saw on youtube a while back that a guy put an onboard starter on his, and I had to have one also LOL
Here is a video of mine last summer breaking the engine in, no cowl on

As you can see the engine is running very cool at this time but the cowl was off and the air temp was in the 40s
The ALT is now reading better because I remounted it with padding for the engine vibration, also this was the first time I ran the engine so it was running rough.

That is forsure Capt
I tell ya this new electric start seems rock solid, It has worked great every time I hit the switch. I know it is way to early to know yet but it is built well and seems like it "should" last for many flights.

That definitely has a high cool factor. I don't know anything about how these starters work, but thinking you must have an 11.1v batt on board to crank that engine, nice job.

The Cessna will fly with ok with balancing it the normal way fuel tank empty, but after a few scary landings where the nose almost wouldn't rotate before touch down I had to rethink my balance procedure.
The yokes I made by copying a photo from a full scale add, resizing it then laying it balsa and started carving, they are ok I guess, better than nothing. The tires are inflatable but I forgot the brand and the Cess is still in my trailer from yesterdays flying, I can get back to you on that.
I find it lands much better with half flaps, full is ok but get a little floaty on landing.

It looks to me like you did a great job on the yokes!!
And Thanks for the IMFO on the 1/2 Flap landing, did you have to add much down mixing on the elevator with the flaps?
And do you use 1/2 flap take offs?
A few other guys said they added very little so I already added a small amount. I have a couple planes that needed alot of elev added.
I was thinking about getting the air filled tires too, thinking they would help smooth out my hard landings but ended up going with some CNC cut alum ones for no other reason then they shine lol
Yes I ended up putting another Battery onboard just for the starter, and it is a 11.1 LiPo. The Starter has a Cool Switch just plug it into any channel on your RX you want and no matter how long you hold the switch on your TX it will only let enough voltage pass to the starter for several rotations and then stop. I think the switch is made by RCexl, and we all know they have sweet engine kill switch.
I got the Starter and Switch at Mile High Hobby.

For those who don't want to make their own yokes, you can purchase them, here. http://www.iflytailies.com/store/coc...sticks-pedals/

They have good stuff. Delivery is prompt.

I buy instruments, radios, knobs, etc, from them.

They frequently add scale goodies to their line of products.

Give them a try. You won't be disappointed.

I do use down mixing for the elevators but not much, using inch measurements probably less than 1/8th inch down elev, you probably have a setting on your radio to slow down the flap servos, it works nice on my Cess and looks scale.
I use half flaps on take off, I know it's not the scale thing to do unless your doing a short field take off, but like the extra margin of safety, it takes off fine without though.
The CNC wheels will look great.
I'll save the Mile High Hobby info, I've always wanted an on board starter may just have to use it on the next project, it would be so cool on a 40% Pilot Decathlon.
Was the starter hard to install?
