Looks like fun I've always wanted to try flying off of snow, we have snow about an hour and 15 min. drive from my house, but it's all trees and mountains I'd probably have to drive further into the Nevada high desert where it's flat and snowy.

Hey all,

I'm just dragging this thread back up because I'm near ready to start working on mine.

What I wanted to know is I have a twin installed in mine and I've started it up for the first time over the weekend and I wanted to gauge how it'll go in the Cessna. Currently it's brand new so not even remotely run in and I tacho'd it with a 20x10 2 blade Master Airscrew at 6400rpm. I'm hoping to get a few hundred more RPM out of it before flight. I'll probably go to a 22x8 for a bit more thrust.

Do you think this will work ok in the Cessna.

Cheers,

Glenn.

Hello Glenn,

A couple of the other guys on the thread have twins on their planes and can speak to the performance in a little more detail. If the engine is a twin 50cc it will work very nicely. All model engines will "Unload" once the plane is in the air. When this happens the engine can pick up from 500 to 1000 more RPM. Good Luck...

My Cessna is equipped with a DLE 55cc single, it seems to have plenty of power but I'd be careful to not
under power it. You'll have to add nose weight anyway, and it's not a light airplane.
Best of luck with the project.

My Cessna weighs 30 lbs. Power is an older magneto Zenoah G62 spinning a 3 blade Mejzlik 20 x 10 carbon-fiber prop at 6400RPM. I like making scale takeoffs, but it climbs quite well and cruises at around 60% power. Still had to add around 20 ounces nose weight for final balance. Half flap landings are nice, keeps it from floating down the field. Have yet to try dropping in with full flaps.

I've done a couple of dozen full flap landings with the Cessna, there were no unpleasant surprises, but since have changed back to half flap landings. Everything just seems more positive and smoother.

Hi Glen,im running a crrc55 twin in mine with a 22x10 wooden prop,it pulls it around no probs, half flaps on take off and its off the ground in no time, cruises around on half throttle,.even though ive had the model quite a while ive probably only had aroubd 8 flights with it so the motor is probably not run in yet, hope this helps.

You might want to try U-Ship, not expensive and will save you the trip.

Ok, four hours driven to pick up four hours to get home. Eight hours total to get this model. First impressions.... Not good. Maybe when I get her together and a few flights on her I'll feel better about my decision,

Hi Guys.... The further along I get with this bird, the more excited I get to get her in the air. One quick question I have for you all... I plan on re-doing the pushrods, I don't particularly like the supplied rods, But I REALLY don't like the control horns. What mods (if any) did you do for these control surfaces. I have HD horns which I really want to install, but where is the "hard points" on her? There are pencil makes on her from the previous owner, but when I drilled for the little horns, I didn't feel a whole lot of solidness... (know what I mean?)

I'm awaiting an order of hysol to glue the engine box in, and also to reinforce the formers. I already installed 12oz of weight just behind the first former and secured it, but also made it accessible in case I need to add or take some out.

Thanks in advance for any and all help....

Hi Phil,

I am taking a "WAG" based on what I can remember of my 182. I do remember that I needed to put about 2 lbs of lead on the nose of the firewall using one of my RCGF 55cc single cylinder engines. The CG needs to be at least 4" from the leading edge of the wing at the cockpit. On your plane, if my memory serves me, it would CG on the back edge of the wing wood sheeting out at the tips. That is where I CGed mine and it flew just fine...... Good Luck!!!

Thanks Captmicom! As she sits now, I do believe I'm at approx. 5.25". Looks like I have a little more work to do on her tonight. I put a G62 in her, and so far about a pound and a half between lead weight and extra old batteries in the nose. Maybe one more will do it.

Yup.. as long as the CG is at or about the back end of the wing sheeting it should be good to go.. keep us posted...

If you want to do a little math and measuring, most standard wings balance between 28 to 32 percent of the chord measured from the leading edge of the wing at the fuselage. This is pretty much the standard and is easily checked before a test flight.

10 ft wing span powered by a 30 to 50 CC. Just sounds like it's going to be under powered. Most 10 ft wingspans start at 85 to 100 CC and go up from there.

Nope not at all.. at 10' or 120" span the Cessna 182 flies scale with a 50/55 cc engine at almost half throttle...
