I have called them so many times I think I'm earning frequent flyer miles. I just want the things I buy from them right. We must have the same taste in planes. I have the 1/4 pa-18 and the taylorcraft with a new zp 20cc is next on my list. What did you put into your tcraft?

I have the G26 in mine...Mine was the bind and fly , Great Hobbies had a sale , it was on for $999.00...Thats $300 dollars off , so I decided I couldn't pass it up..I am the same way...These things aren't cheap...I just feel when you are paying that kind of money you gotta get your moneys worth... It still takes a day to assemble...I still have to balance mine but I now have a Vanessa Rig so it will be easy...I expect it to be pretty close...

My T-Craft is about 4 or 5 years old. I really enjoy the plane a lot. I use the biggest diameter prop the engine is comfortable with and 6 inches of pitch. In this case it's a DLE 30 and a MA 20x6 wood prop. The ailerons are set up with 2-to-1 differential and enough throw on low rates to do a roll in 2 seconds. A lot more in high rates for spins and such. Very realistic when I want that and a hot-dogger when in the mood.
Enjoy your T-Craft. When you are done, it lands like a trainer. Enjoy!

I got mine when the ARF version first came out, so it's at least 4 yrs old. I have the OS120ax in it and it's absolutely the perfect engine for the airplane and my flying style. Yes I had to add weight to the nose and no it won't hover, but it'll do everything the full-size'll do and a bit more.I love the thing. And it floats in on landing.
Couple of pics of the engine/cowl mount. One advantage of the 120 2-stroke nitro and balanced prop is that I haven't had any problems w/ the tailbraces breaking....
Fly good, you'll love it.

Lifer,
Can you post some pics of your throttle linkage installation with your DLE 30? I thought about going with the Zenoah 20. But I would rather do a DLE.

Have you guys opened up the cowl for better cooling? The black part could be cut out easy enough...

Hi,
You have to be careful that you don't open the front up too much, I put shaped baffles in the front of mine, (photos on the forum) but also opened up the side grills to let out more air, which is more important than letting more air in.. (you need about 3 to 4 times more outlet area than inlet area as hot air expands and if it can't get out it will 'boil' which then means your engine will overheat, run lean and stop at least, worst case it will seize). so air to the head is critical, and a big hole at the back to let it out, a small hole to cool the crank case won't be a bad idea either.

Hi,
Here are the baffles and cutouts I made to help with cooling, I could have mounted the engine - side winder style but I wanted the primary balance a little easier to adjust.

Ya33a,
Do,you have an fg-20 installed in this plane? How does it fly with that? Good power? Do you wish it had more? I am wondering if an fg-21 would be a good candidate.

Pick the plane up by the cross brace with the roof off, the tail should be level and the prop vertical, it's almost at the balance point, maybe very slightly nose heavy, but a good place to start, for the first flight.

Hi,
Yes the FG20 works well, more scale than 3D, the FG21 is an upgrade on the 20 with a few improvements and should be fine. You need to keep momentum up and 'fly' the plane you can't just point and squirt... If that makes sense?

Mine looks like its pretty much 3 3/4 back and sitting level .. I am having a bit of trouble with my vanessa rig ..The ropes are slipping. I think I am going to try leather straps..Shoe laces should work...I tried picking it up by the wing tube ( Cross Brace ) and it is sitting pretty much level..Thanks for the tip ..

Yes I had a Zenoah G-26ei on mine and I had to add if memory serves 14 ounces of weight on the firewall. I believe if you look in some earlier posts you will see some pictures I posted during my build.
I will say this about this plane. In all my years in the hobby bar none, this was one of the best if not THE best airpane I owned. The plane can fly like a big trainer and just absolutely floats on landing and when you want to turn it up. It will do aerobatics quite nicely. It is by no means a 3D airplane, however for a sport scale bird it does very well. Not to mention the attention it grabs while at the field.
Hangar 9 did it right with this one.
My 2 cents
Regards
Glenn Williams

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft
A few posts back someone asked about a "twisted" fuselage. I had the same concerns when building mine after I attached the tail. The vertical fin was not square. After you apply the tail brace wires it will straighten out just fine. I do not know if H9 has fixed the brace issue but this has been discussed previously and the fix is rather quick and simple.
Have fun

Better late to the party than not at all! Just picked up a V2 H9TC from a fellow member and after going her a THOROUGH once over got to maiden her yesterday. She's grossly overpowered with a JC28 and 18x8 Xoar beechwood. Using a single A123 and IBEC for ignition balance is spot on the recommended location. I had the V1 with a G23 and it was fun, but tame in comparison. I fly mostly giant scale 3d ships so this will be my "Sunday flyer!"

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft
Well I am not sure if this is lucky or not...I was happily bragging about how this was the first plane in a long while that needed no replacement parts...I thought I was going to get away with no calls to Horizion...Well it turns out that I will need to give them a call after all...I was setting the radio up and I let the smoke out of the throttle servo...It burnt the floor black and scared me ....I did't know where the smoke was comming from to start with...I just knew I wanted to unhook the battery...I have no idea why the servo cooked , It wasent even hooked up on the servo end yet ..It was hooked on the throttle end and I was getting ready to hook it up on the inside . I hope it hasent harmed the reciever...I pluged a HiTec 425 in and it works fine..Its not Digital like the A6000's and it needed to be reversed but other than that it seemed to work okay .. I also broke the throttle ball link yanking it apart in a big hurry...Jeepers this really scared me . There was quite a bit of smoke by the time I got it un hooked and figured out...The worst part is when you dont know whats wrong...Shutting the switch off dosent always work... And you can't tell if it is fixed rite away because the smoke dosent stop instantly....Does anybody know if you can mix the HiTex anolog servos with the Spektrum Digital A6000 servos . I have heard that you shouldnt mix analogs with digitals....I have done it before with the ds821's with no ill affects ...

Using both digital and analog servos is not a problem. The only way it would cause a problem is if you had dual rudder or elevator servos for example. You would not want one digital and one analog in that case.

Thanks Corvettez06 I am going to go ahead with that 425 then...I would like to button this one up.......We are getting very close to being able to fly up here...Things are drying up nicely..Acording to the manual this Taylorcraft has quite a bit of control throws on high rate...I think it says 1.5" on the ailerons on high rate , My Cub is only 1" , How much do you have yours set at? Do you go by the settings in the manual? I have been flying Cubs and am quite familiar with how they should be set up...Do you need to have any rudder mixed in with the ailerons to help in the turns ? I know you can use your left thumb and do it rite but I like to have the mix on a switch so I can turn it on or off...

My throttle servo burned up on the first time I connected it to the receiver. Pulled it out and replaced it with a Hitec. Worked fine since a year ago.

It should work. Although it may be a little tight and not leave much wiggle room. I believe this engine is 138mm from prop hub face to rear of engine. The taylorcraft has a firewall to prop hub length requirement of 146mm. Let us know how it works.

Thanks for the reply,
I would to ask 1 more thing. Do you think that the laser has enough power for basic aerobatic maneuvers?
Thanks,
Kanimbua.
