How to make plastic lenses for wing tip lights?
Hi,
I've been looking through various posts into trying to find out how you make lenses which fit nicely over the corner of wingtip to conceal lights inside....
Could someone please give me a helping hand in how to make these? I am busy building a wing panel and would like to include these in the build...
Many thanks!

RE: How to make plastic lenses for wing tip lights?
the short version is tto take some plastic sheeting or some from a plastic coke bottle , cut to the appropriate size, heated up either in your oven or with a heat gun and then to pull it over the pieces or parts you are trying to dupilcate. The details of course are the holders for the plastic, the correct temp to get the sheeting to pull and of course how you hold the plastic that you are pulling. Hope this paints a good pic. Others will of course chime in ......

Ram-Bro has the idea.
You can use the actual pieces that you have removed as the mould but add a bit of 1/8 balsa to the back of the part otherwise the stretched plastic will tuck under making them a bit harder to fit neatly.
I ust mounted these pieces on a stick, held in a vice. Cut the plastic quite a bit bigger then sandwich opposite sides between two ice cream sticks. Heat the plastic in front of an electric fire & when it's floppy just stretch it over the mould.
Do they have to be coloured red & green? If so I have achieved good results with Tamiya acrylic colours X-27 clear red & X-25 clear green.
Good luck! - John.
