Default ACE 4-120 Bipe w/ ST 4500

I have a ST4500 that was converted to gas by Air Power Technologies (needle bearings on the rod, Walbro carb, etc.). Right now the only plane in my shop that does not have an engine is an ACE 4-120 Biplane. Is this engine too big? If not, what size prop? Thanks in advance.

I Had One Of The 4-120 Biplanes Once. I Put An Enya 120r On It And It Had Plenty Of Power For Sport Flying. Was Really A Lot Of Fun As A Barnstormer Type Of Biplane. Personally, I Believe That The 4500 Would Be Too Much Engine For It. Just My 2cents Worth.

Well I have an OPS Maxi 30 on gas on my Giant RoadRunner......would an engine swap be in order? The RR has a 90" wingspan. How about that?

That Would Be Better If The 4-120 Will Take The Nose Weight. I Had One Of Those Engines Once And The Best I Can Remember, They're Pretty Heavy.

The 4-120 had a G-38 on it when I bought it. I sold the G-38 so for "barnstorming" the OPS Maxi should be about right. I'll put the ST 4500 on the RR. I'll shorten the nose if necessary to help balance it out. How does that sound?

That Would Be My Choice. Just Wondering If You Have A Link Or Phone Number For Air Power Technologies And Remember How Much It Cost To Convert The 4500 ? I Have One Of The 4500's NIB And Wouldn't Mind Checking Into Having The Conversion Done. Thanks.

Mike,

Here's the link:

http://airpowertechnologies.net/

Be sure to tell Charlie that Stan sent ya!

It was around $50.00 to put needle bearings on the rod in your engine, around $60.00 for the Walbro carb and manifold, and about the same for his labor. I replaced all the other bearings on mine using parts from Tower. My 4500 ignition system is by Pro Spark and weighs next to nothing...considering how much a 4500 weighs this is a good thing Thanks!

Stan,

Thanks For The Link. I Will Definitely Be Doing Some Business With Him. I Appreciate It. Is The 4500 A Strong On Gas As It Was On Glow ? What Prop Are You Running On It And At What RPM ?

Since you admitted to having a Road Runner, do you know if the plans are available for purchase? My friend has an older one, and we'd like to build another one.

I didn't know there was an ARF. Thanks for your help anyway.
