Ultra Stick 120
 

Hi - I have one of the old Ultra Stick 120 and I want to put an OS BGX3500 on it, would this engine be too big for it?
It's 35cc two strokes and it weights 3 pounds.

My other option is an OS 1.60

I want to do baner towing with this airplane so I want to be able to pull a lot of weight.

Any suggestions

From a 20cc to a 35cc will present issues of balance and structural integrity. Mount the servos in the rear. Battery, too. Reinforce the firewall with tri-stock, fiberglass tape, and dowel rods. Likely will need bigger tires or a taller landing gear. Tail braces will be needed, too. Run low-pitch props and watch the speed. BIG fuel tank as well.

I have a giant ugly stick with a 52cc twin in the front.Servos in the rear batteries in front of the wing tube.I know the 120 is a bit smaller but not by much.Careful placement of the batteries and servos should make that engine combo work well

I've got two Giant Ugly Sticks, one has a Saito 300 twin, and the other has a Zenoah G38. I had to add some weight to the tail, and installed bigger tires to get the prop clearance I needed, but that's about it. They are a blast to fly. The Giant Ugly Stick is somewhat bigger than the Ultra Stick 120, but not by much. I originally was running the BGX-1 3500 on one of the stiks, until I got a killer deal on the 300 twin. The BGX-1 took less added weight than either the G38 or the Saito 300 twin. For banner towing, I think the BGX will work just fine, with the right prop and bigger tires.....and yep, maybe a bigger fuel tank. The BGX is a thirsty engine:D

UAVFLYER76, I just checked the specs on the Ultra Stick 120. The Ultra has a wingspan of 76", while the Giant Big Stik is 80.5". Flying weight for both planes is advertised at from 12 to 15 pounds. Not a great amount of difference in the two....By the way, I'm the one that you made the offer to for the BGX-1. If you're having second thoughts about the offer, let me know, and I'll cancel the sale....no problem at all.

The Ultra Stick Lite i will ned a LOT of reinforcing for that motor, I wouldn't recommend it The Big Sticks and Ugly Stick, even the Ultra Stick 120 (not Lite) are built stronger.

I had an Ultra Stick 120 lite, and I flew it for 1 1/2 seasons with a Saito 180 4 stroke no problems at all. I did beef up the way the elevators join, but other than that, pretty stock, ran good servos and all 4-40 connections( can't remember if they were stock). I never had any trouble with mine, and the 180 is probably very equal in power to a G-38, maybe more powerful, just not as heavy. Overpowered by a margin, but definately fun to fly, and that engine was at the top of the recommended engine range.

I picked up an Ultra Stick Lite 120 several days ago, and stuck a Moki 1.80 on the nose. Big Fun!!:D:DIt flies beautifully, no mods other than bigger tires. I really believe the BGX will work just fine.

I've had a Ulra stick 120 for years with a Super Tigre 3250. Had to change the landing gear in order to swing a big prop. Balancing has always been a problem but the idea of putting the battery in back of the plane is Genius! http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f.../lightbulb.gif

GP Giant Stick with a DL50. Split the Elevators for two servos, and changes the rudder. Over 200 flights

I thought all shops had refrigerators. Standard equiptment. how you gonna keep the Beer cold?

I rebuilt a FIAT Bianchina 500 engine on my kitchen table in the apartment my wife and I had right after we got married. She says now she should have run away fast and never looked back right after that. (but she didn't):D

I have a Ultra Stick Lite with a Zenoah G-26 on it swinging a 18" prop. The BGX3500 is close to the same weight (give or take a couple oz). The firewall had to be cut down to 6 3/8" to make the G-26 balance with servos in the tail.
