Scale Percentage
If I have 1/3 scale plan, and want to have FedEx/Kinko's reduce it to 1/5 scale, at what percentage should they set the copier? I'm not sure of the figure I come up with and want to get it right the first time.

Multiply the width (length) of the wing x (times) 3.
Divide that number by 5. Example: wing width (Length) is 100 inches times 3 = 300. 300 divided by 5 = 60. That is the percentage of wht you need to shrink it. The new drawing needs to be 60% of the 1/3rd drawing. |

So, 60% of your 1/3 scale plans will give you 1/5 scale plans. Regards, Richard |

That's the type of reply I was hoping for. I came up with 60%, but by a different method. It's good to be sure. I would probably determine the size of the model first based on what engine you expect to use.
Then reduce accordingly to the wing span or how the engine fits. What's the project? |
