TMMY Scale Composites 27% (120") Cessna 182 TC Skylane.
 

Hey Guys, anybody interested in the TMMY (Tommy) 27% (120") Cessna 182 TCSkylane? I have just ordered one of these from Tommy thru Austars here in Oz. I jumped on the 35% thread of almost exactly the same aircraft and it was suggeested that I start my own as there was perhaps no relevance. My aircraft is some months away from delivery however I have just completed the "mother" if you like of the new aircraft which was produced by Austars by another manufacturer at that time. It appears that the new one by Tommy (series 2) was born from this original airframe and much modified and upgraded to become almost a mirror image of the 35% giant scale deal.

I'd like to hear from anybody who has built or building one of these lovley aircraft to compare notes and experiences with. I know there's some Ozzie guy's out there that have done so

Let's call the one I have the Austars series 1 to save confusion, I test flew it on the weekend just gone and all went well and it does look magnificent in the air in particular comming into land with the flaps down in landing mode.

There was a thread some years ago of the build on theAustars series 1 like mine from an Ozzie fellow and I followed that for some time however it ended abruptly before the build was finished. I've often wondered what happened there.....if your still out there bignuts181 would love to hear from you.

This airframe is now a thing of the past however there was a lot gained by it's build as it was the build from hell as nothing fitted and it took a lot of work to make it something to be proud to own. It's these experiences I guess that make it a challenge and where we gain the skills of building from.

I'm looking forward to Tommy's series 2 version and my associated build so would love to hear from anybody who is out there doin it. I'll put some pic's up of my series 1 Cessna on this site. I posted quite a few on the 35% thread If you want to take a look.

Hey Wayne, glad you found this forum I guess we'll see what happens and if anybody out there has anything to offer and yeah the nite fly-in sounds interesting so I had better finish hooking up the lights. I need to do a few changes to the programing in the 14 MZ mainly in regards to the speed of the elevator compensation which I want the same as the speed of the flaps. At the moment the servo speed on the flaps is set to 27 steps but the elevator trim works at normal speed and you see the effect / pitch change on the aircraft when you lift the flaps up after take off. I needto set the flight modes up so that I have a mode for take off, cruise and landing modeso that you can dial in all the parameters fortake offmode then a new set of parameters for the othertwo modes. For example ontake off I set the flaps to 20 degrees and the elevatortrim comes intoeffect as well. Sowhen using flight modefor take offI can tell the radio to set the flaps without the elavator trim coming into effect.Then in landing mode I can tell the radio to set the flaps and the elevator trim and anything else for that matter like saya gyro on the ailerons for example. Sky's the limitnowadays!

Hey there, Thanks for sharing your post on what looks like a a great TMMY 27% Cessna which also looks like it has the current Cessna paint scheme. I notice you guys fly amongst plenty of obstacles ie. light and power poles! Guess that keeps you on your toes!

Your attention to detail looks outstanding and is a credit to you going on the pics and video. The GT 55 looks to have plenty of power, How do you find it ?

Are you interested in sharing your build experience on this post ? I would be interested in your experiences with Tommy and if and how you overcame any build problems that you may have encountered.

Feel free to ask any questions of me regarding my aircraft although it was not apparently manufactured by Tommy it still is a composite 120" Cessna and the forerunner of yours. My new TMMY Cesssna is some months away.

Did you have to add any nose weight at all with the smaller engine on board?

Hi ,
As for the cockpit panel and some other detailing I built it myself.The plane flying is great and very stable.
As for I'm using the OS55 GT the power is superb. Yes additional weight have to be add on at the nose as the OS engine is light in weight.
Overall the plane were built nicely by Tommy and I've change or redo the interior flooring.

Hey guys, some photo's of my new 27% Cessna under construction at TMMY. Tommy installed the 35% scale Fowler flap hinges upon my request. Build time to date is only 3 weeks. Well done Tommy! Have also settled on the 2012 colour scheme for my new 35% Cessna which should be under way soon.

Hey guys, thought I'd post some more photo's of my Austars 27% Cessna showing the finished product. It now has full nav lights, landing lights plus the rego number, model designation and Cessna logo stickers in place taken from actual photo's of the full size aircraft. Also thanks to Ren at premier pilotsI have "Jim" in the pilots seat!
Next time I take it out to the field I'll get some shots of her in the air and in landing mode.
When my new one arrives I'll maybe do a detailed build on the 27% TMMY Cessna 182 Skylane TC.

Hi guys, has anyone got the ability to make the back window for this Cessna? Mine came with a badly molded back window, Tommy kindly sent me another but it very thin and already has started to show crease lines in it. I need to make a new one but I don't have the equipment.

On page 7 Joaopestanas Tells how he replaced the factory dark tinted windows with clear ones that he made himself.

Thanks Silvers, I found someone with a machine to make one for me from a plaster cast.

A few questions for the group:

Has anyone actually flown theirs yet? Mine is looking super tail heavy - did you have to add ballast to the nose? if so how much?

It feels very heavy, I think it's going to be a lead sled :( how heavy is everyone else's?

How much control movement do you have on each control?

I stumbled on this thread by chance as I have been on the market for a 120" Cessna to house my OS320 Pegasus engine. I initially was looking for a 120" Cessna 206 but I guess the 182 will do. A few questions I have are in regards to the servo trays for the elevators and rudder. It will be better in my opinion if these were located in the aft portion of the fuse... toward the tail cone. I just dont like long linkages controlling any moving surfaces. Any pictures of these will be greatly appreciated.

Activity on this thread is long over due. Aren't there any 120" Cessna's flying out there that can share any build and flight chracteristics?
