Pat

Do you have any pictures of the blades? I have hundreds of Clark Airscrew props but I don't remember for sure what the Spitfire used. I know John made the blades but I'll have to look and see what I have.

My flying buddy Jeff Quesenberry built and flew one here in Minneapolis years ago. In all honesty, the performance with those blades on the Clark inline engine was terrible. Once you got it up “on the step” it flew, but it had marginal performance at best. I would try to change out the hub on the engine so you can run a two blade prop on it. Or if you liked the 3 blade for scale appearance, just run a Mejzlik. That was something we talked about but Jeff sold the plane before changing out the hub.

Just found the YouTube video of the maiden and second flights. 2003.....man we are getting old. If the link below doesn’t work, search for “Clark Spitfire - 110 inch span”.

I believe you are right I think I will change the hub for a 2 blade prop and see what that feels like, after looking at the video it looks like it barely made it in the air

Prop Blades

Do the blades have the pitch and length on them? Most Clark Airscrew props did not have the size or pitch on the props it was only listed on the bag they came in. The Blades in thephoto were made from a standard 2 blade Clark Airscrew. I still have hundreds of those props in every size and pitch. One of my close friends who has since passed away imported Clark Airscrews into the US many years ago. I purchased his company, Model Aircraft Supply, from his family and continued to sell various brands of props for several years. He developed a 3 & 4 blade prop that you could replace blades on which was very similar to what was used on the Spitfire and I have many of the single blades that he produced. So if you can determine the pitch I'm sure I'll,have what you need.
The Spitfire in the video sounds like it really was not running very well and the speed looked marginal. It was a beautiful airplane when it was available.

Hi Splam, Thanks for the reply I have been talking to a fellow in Australia who has a CS he suggest running a 24 x 12 3 blade, he said this engine needs to be around 65-6800rpm to have any chance of flying descent, here is my email so I can contact you to see if you have these props:

Thanks Pat
