Well, I am here, you know...

A few close shots of the door hinges and latch...actually a sliding one.
The door hinges were made of 0,2mm brass sheet, folded into an "U" profile, cut slanted in the correct angle, and the small tubes soldered on are actually from the fishing shop, they use them to crimp on the steel lines.
The hinge "pin" is a 1/16"wire bent to the exact shape of the full size, and the lever actually works! If you pull the handle inside the cockpit, the lever on the outside pulls up the whole assembly and the door pops out just like the fullsize. Of couse the handle inside will be secured to avoid vibrating loose in flight...!!

Marcus,
Considering going to Brazil and bringing one of your planes back with me to the states, how much fuel does that Decathlon hold, lol! You do some amazing work!

Mike
ito world competion standards,
I consider myself an average scale builder.
Of course on the Decathlon issue I have digged
a lot of info.
I think you should consider buying the full kit
(I have only a few oval aluminum tubes left)
One full kit will go to Ken (one year late, haha).
The second could be yours...would be only one
S&H cost...where are you located?

Marcus,
I live in Caribou, Maine USA right up against the Canadian border, oppisite end of the world from where you are......

RE: Hostetler 33% Decathlon

Well, that was just out of curiosity...it's been 16 years since I was last in the US, and never been to the upper border. Guess it's a nice place to live...

If you decide to buy one of my kits please let me know and I will answer right away.

HI Fellows
here a new bunch of pix od the SD 35%.

First matching of wings to fuselage, first full assembly and fitting of the Wing Struts. Will be disassembled again for painting.
Yet to be done is the reg# (PP-KDZ) on the fuse sides (done on the wings already), and the tail wire bracings.
A little cockpit detailing and then it's done.

I was so fortunate to get a set of original ACRO stickers and a reduced version as well from the ACRO president - that's the name of the club who flies the full size - they had one reduced to 35% scale (by chance) for use on the car or wherever else one wishes. Now talk about being lucky...

I will of course take pix of the fully assembled plane outdoors, in front of the "hangar"...

Enjoy
Marcus

a little update on the 35% SD

Now most details are done, only a few yet to be added to reach the agreement between me and the buyer.
Linkage and RC installation, and voilá, it´s done.

See the latest pix below. Enjoy

That is sooo good looking. What turns on your landing light? Ours comes on when the ignition turns on.

Ken
the Landing light is wired to a simple ESC for brushed motors with its own NIMH pack. I first programmed it on the throttle channel, then pulled the plug out and plugged it into the gear channel. Flip the switch and there is the light with half a second delay.
The light bulb itself is a set 3 ultra bright LEDs, I stole the assembly from a cheap China-made flashlight. It works with 4.8-6V so any 4-5 cell pack will do fine. I tried a LiPo 7.4 (2S) but it burned the first set of LEDs so I headed for the hardware shop to buy a replacement. There is a small resistor soldered in between which I had left out the first time, the second try I just let everything as it was, and it worked fine.

The advantage of doing it this way is that you have a completely separate lighting system which you can switch on/off remotely at any desired time, both on take-off or landing and in-flight.

The whole pity on this plane is that it´s not for me but for a customer...so I´ll have to do it allover again when time comes to build my own.

Enjoy
Marcus

Well, fellas, eventually I finished the PP_KDZ, my new flagship...

Just a few facts:
MMF 35% scale Super Decathlon, 352cm wingspan, 248cm length o.a., estimated weight 15 Kg.
Engine: DA-85, Radio JR 12ch. with AR9000 Receiver, all servos JR ST-126 MG Hi Torque except Choke servo is a Euroline Sport/standard servo.
3 Battery packs required (not yet installed, the owner will do): 1x Receiver, 1x Ignition, 1x Landing light
Extras added to basic kit: Dorsal Antenna, Radiator replica, Landing light, Scale Door hinging, dual seats and basic cockpit lining.
The ACRO logo was a stroke of luck: I contacted the president of the ACRO Team (who also happens to be building one of my 30% kit to a very scale status) and he sent me the fullsize and the 35% version of the actual logo.
Kavan 150mm Wheels (aprox 6") on 3/16" axles and a non-scale TW from RC ModelParts.
Rudder cables are 60lbs nylon coated steel fishing line. Elevator and Aileron linkage is 4-40 threaded rod with 1/8" brass tube soldered over, all hardware is 4-40 HD from either Robart or Du-Bro. I will strongly reccomend to replace those nylon servos arms, using aluminum items instead.
All covering is Oracover, color are Navy Blue and White, Ferrari Red trim (all trims are Orastick)

Here are the pix, as usual taken in front of my garage-converted-to-aircraft-factory...

Enjoy and if anyone of you guys is interested in such a kit, let me know either PM me or goto my site marcusmodelfactory.com - pix will be posted there soon.
posting in batches as there are many large pix.

And the final bunch

Last picture it´s me with my pride (and the new owner´s joy!!)
sweating in the hot summer sun down here in Brazil.

Will build a wooden box now to ship the aircraft to Belo Horizonte, some 1500km from my hometown Blumenau.

Marcus, that is one sharp airplane. The work you done on this airplane is outstanding! I sure hope the Guy that gets this beauty in the air makes a Video so we can see it in the air. Thanks and Merry Christmas. Capt,nhttp://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f.../thumbs_up.gif

Thanks Ken, this baby has given me more work than any other of my production SDs.

And Yes, I know, I´ll have one framed up from me very soon, my son-in-law who happened to help me out during the year will do the basic framing, I´ll take over right after finishing that Focke-Wulf which is still lying on my table.

I guess I will do a change of pace, though, and build either a Citabria or a Scout, I am working on the wing drawings to do the changes for flat bottom and flaps.
Doing a Scout I can build a longer wing (scale) allowing for an even lighter wingloading. Although the DLE-111 has gobs of power but then again I plan to build a set of floats as well, and that adds a lot of drag and weight.

And of course, my own model will be covered in Oratex and be painted of course.

Look at this beautiful Scout i just stumbled over on the net...whaddaya think?

RE: Hostetler 33% Decathlon

Mike,
I guess I will get an order sooner that I think...

Capt´n John
thanks for the nice words. Yes, I will have him doing some footage on the flights. He is a frequent guest at many events, so I´ll get some free advertising and this bird will be my flagship for a while. I hope to get a few orders in return. I sure want to get as many photos taken, I will share a few as soon as I get them.

Ken Big Bird, once again thanks for the nice words. I´ll keep my promise to send you one, but it will take a few additional months before I can do that.

Wish you all a merry Christmas, with peace of mind, health and happiness.
And you all remember, Jesus is the reason for this Season.

See you guys around.

Marcus
