Hi Cesar,

This is the first time I try to post a picture and it seems very slow and only allows me to post them one at a time. So I have many more photos of the Stearman kit for you but if you email me and send me your email maybe its easier to send them like that. The kit is very complete with comprehensive hardware and wheels. Even it includes the pinking tape fr the rib stitching and a good supply of litho plate for the panels. The wood seems good quality but some of the die cutting is a little rough (die-crunching). Overall however it looks like a good and fairly straightforward build. It coes with a big Aluminium cowl if you want to make a suoer stearman or a version without the motor exposed. This is for the guys who can't afford a big radial I guess. I may be one of them. Lets see!!

Cesar.

Here they are. On the last post I clicked a wrong button and lost all the uploads. The cat saw me do it and then ran for it. I think it saved his life!! On one of these pictures you can see the rough die cutting. Its not all like that just here and there and I don't think it will affect the build too much. By the way this is a BIG model!!

BarlingtonBomber,

I hear you about loading one picture at a time (I am on dial up). RCU only lets me post pictures that are 100k or smaller or multiple picture with a total size less than 100k at a time (you can load picture until you run out of browse buttons). I use Photo Razor by Stormdance http://www.stormdance.net/ to reduce my pictures for posting (it is a free down load). A couple of clicks and a smaller copy of you original (not touched in any way) is posted in a separate folder called small photos in the original folder. All the small photos have an “m” added to the file name. A 2MB photo is reduced to about 50k in no time. Check it out

Hi Barlingbomber,

Thank you verry much for the pictures BB, it is indeed a complete kit as I see. With the exchange price of the dollar it is maybe a good option at this time.

I shall inform the shipping costs from the states.

Regards,
Cesar.

Hi Ruud,

if you have the information about shipping, tell me, I´m interested too.
I have a plan of the Stearman from Ziroli in 89´= 2,24 m, but it´s too small.

I got my quarter scale Barth Waco out today for its fourth and fifth flights after putting more right thrust into the engine. She flies much better now, but is still squirrelly on takeoff because of toe out instead of toe in on the main landing gear. Landings are a piece of cake, but then there wasn't any wind to speak of today. I'm still really nervous to fly it because of all the time and money that went into building it, plus I'm more into aerobatics. My enjoyment was in building it. Any way, I'm thinking of selling it, but don't know how to go about pricing it. I'd sell it with a G62 with EI, and the buyer would only have to provide his own servos and receiver. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Sorry to bring it up in this thread, but I didn't know where else to go.

Chuck

Hi Chuck,
what a pity, you are selling your Waco. Take your time and think about it. Fly her more often and in a few month
all looks otherwise. I´m shure, you will regret it!!!!

How many right trust do you have on your Waco? I´m using 2,5° with the 250 RCS, but I think, I mistrust me,
to use full thottle at the first starts. :)

Hi Bernie, Steve here for California. I see you think 2.5 degrees may not be enough right thrust....that you have doubts about full power on take off. Don't worry about it.the Waco will not snap around to the left under full power. She may kind of drift a little to the left but no so bad you frightened. Just give her a tiny bit of left trim on take off and never give it any more thought. My Waco handels the big torque that these radials put out very well. You will be just so happy after your first flight. Nothing like haveing that sound of a radial but also the overkill power if you need it to get out of trouble.

Well I have to go now.weather is not good to fly out side so I'm going to fly my computer for a couple of hours.

*Off topic**
For the winter months I am flying with a Piper Pawnee span 2,7 mtr. I have bought it second-hand. I am now busy with an other exhaust. The standaard exhaust that is on the ZG62 is to restrictive so I have build a low budget cannister made out of two spray cans and build it in the fuse. I hope i get some more rpm now out the ZG62.

Grüßen,

Ruud.

Hi Ruud, could you advise me what you used for the flexible pipe on your G62 exhaust you show in the second pix in your post #337 on Sept. 23. I'm not sure I can get this in Canada, but I haven't see this before and it would be the solution to my problem if I can get it.

Thanks

Jim,

If the flex pipe is not a model airplane item, check your local plumbing shop and see what they have in gas appliance flexable hook-up line. It looks about the same as in Rudds picture and can probably be brazed to the exhaust manifold and muffler. Worth a shot in any case.

Hi Jim and John,

It is indeed flexable tubing line for a gas meter. If you use it be sure that there is no tension between the exhaust manifold and muffler. After you have mount it glow the tube out with a flame. Be sure that there are no movement and vibration between the manifold and muffler otherwise the tube wil tear off some were in the curve.

Cesar.

Yeah, John has a lot of good ideas under the surface of his head, thanks to him! [sm=thumbup.gif]:)

These days I made ready the cablework and conectors in the wings ( Servo, Landinglight). I made also
additional ribs between the first two ribs, in the prop stream the covering is saved with double rib stitching.
Next was mounting the ailerons, I didn´t use the hinges of the kit, took alu-hinges like the origin. It was a lot of
work, to get grip for the screws in the balsa. I drilled holes in, and filled them with epoxi-alu mixture. The screws are
dipped in fluid wax. It´s amazing, I can tight them very strong now.
Because the leading edge of the aileron is not straight, I could´nt make the hinges too long. The end of them are
wooden dummys for optical look.
And today the first wing had to be covered.......I was never much good in covering ;).....wings with circular arc is
another thing than the fuse. Dont´t look the details:D
Here the pics:

Bernie,

Your wing is coming along pretty good. You are actually doing things pretty much to scale with the aileron hinge. See the attached picture. The full size hinge stops about 6" short of the tip (just past the 4th rib from the tip).

All,

Information about the Full Size Waco Fly-Ins (AWC and NWC) being held in June 2008 has been posted in the Pica Build thread, post #3883. It would be great if some of you could come and bring your Wacos to one of the events or just come and attend. Both organizations have expressed interest in the models. The AWC is interested in getting photos for their newsletter.

I realize it is quite a trip for those of you that live overseas and would not expect you to ship your planes to the States (especially these 33%-40% Wacos). But come on over without the planes (bring and or send pictures) and bring the family for a holiday.

Great job of the Wacos guys.I noticed some discussion on photos for cockpits and I put a virtual cockpit from Wright RC in my Bulldog II Project and it turned out nice.We took pics of Jims actulal cockpit for use. Here is a pic.We have since matched the shoulders to the bust better.

Hi guys,

now I have a BIG problem, with the RCS in the front I have to place 1,5kg !!!!! in the tail for a correct CG.
Question special to RCS users in the Waco ( SoCalSal): Where is your CG? Peter Barth writes in the building instructions, in the rear cabane strut [sm=confused.gif]

RE: Buiding pics Waco YMF-5 Barth Modellbau

Hi Bernie, Steve here (socalsal) I balanced mine just about at the spot Barth recommends. Not sure why you have to add so much weight to the tail but it must be all the detail you have built into the front end. I had to use about .5 kG to my Waco due to the weight of the RCS215. But if I understand right the RCS250 is about the same weight?????????????? All I can say is check all your radio gear and fuel tank/s and such. It sounds like all the stuff you did to make it scale is causeing you the heavy weight forward problem. What is the totel weight of your Waco???? mine is 46lbs ready to fly less fuel.

Are you balancing it with the fues at the level position? In other words is your tail wheel blocked up so that you are weighing it at a level flight position? Also did you weigh the left wheel and the the right first? Did you make sure that you blocked up left/right main gear so that after you placed the scale under one wheel or the other that the plane was level from side to side while you were taking the weights? What I mean is if your scale is say 40mm high and you placed it under the left main gear did you block up the main right gear so that it is up to the same height as the left gear? If not try doing it that way. Because if you don't your totle weight will be way off. You must also block up tail wheel to a level flying position and the place the scale under it to get the correct weight Don't try to weigh the tail wheel is sitting down on the ground. This will give you a false weight.

Just remember to always weigh the plane in a normal flight position making sure that the main gear are always the same height while taking the weights as well as the tail wheel. Don't place the scale under one wheel and leave the other sitting on the ground..block it up to the same height as the wheel that the scale is on then take your weights.

Steve

Hi Steve,

I used a scale hanging on the ceiling and the plane is mounted as specified in the building instructions at the rear cabane strut by a plywood bracket on the
Wing Tubes, look at the drawing, unfortunately in german, SP= CG, "Kugellager" is Ballbearing, "Oberseite" is upperside
The details in the front end are not so heavy, quite contrary in the tail is the mechanism to adjust the horizon stab with two servos.
There must be a failure in my meashure method.

Bernie

RE: Buiding pics Waco YMF-5 Barth Modellbau

Hi Bernie,

I made the same jig for checking the CG and folowed the same method as you did.

I sum up the total weight of the MVVS and came up to,
engine 3100
ignition 300
12V battery 300
2x exhaust 600
2x cooling tunnel 300

Make a sum of 4600 gr.

I have placed the two batterys 2500 mA NC powerbox and reciever in a straight line under the headrest for a good CG.

Hope this info wil help for comparison to figure it out.

REgards,
Ruud.

Hi Guys,

today I´m feeling better, :D yesterday I was really frusted about my meashurements of weight. [:o] Why?
My measure method was not the best, very inexactly values. Now I used an Excel sheet, recommended from SoCalSal, Steve, thanks to him, it works great.
But I have to place about 500g in the tail, I will take for this all accu´s (RC and ignition) Now I´m at 20,5kg´s, and I have a little elbowroom. The limit here in germany is 25 kg´s
Perhaps I can realise a smoker system?

All is covered now, don´t look so closely to the pics, I´m not a specialist in covering :D
See the pics:

Regards
Bernie
