I guess I should have rotated that last picture. Well here I am building the rudder . I used some small pieces of 4/40 rod to pin the ribs to the dowel and notched the dowel at the joints, just wanted it to stay together.

The plan called for bending 3/8" dowel for the stab and elevator. Well I soaked for a week in water, I sprayed with amonia, they still cracked on me. Next and what I ended up doing for the edges was to cut some 3/8" balsa wood strips, and glued them together on the plan covered with some press n seal food wrap to protect the plan. I used 6 layers of 1/16" balsa. It seems plenty strong. Ont the end where the brass tube went on I drill it out and glued in a 3" piece of 1/4" dowel to reinforce it.

This is a dummy engine that I may build if I use a G62.

I guess it is not really large enough or clear enough to read. I'm working on it to resize it and I'll try it again.

Oh sorry that was the 1/4 scale gear. Here is the 1/3 Scale gear. Not too sure if these will fit until I build the Fuselage.

Don,
I have subscribed to your build, like I said I have the plans and this is on my to do list. I am currently building an AMR 33% Waco YMF-5 and I have a Ziroli P-40 that I have the fuse framed up and half sheeted which will be next in line. I hope to get to the Cub after that.
Enjoy the build!!!

It looks great!

I have built the Sig 1/4 and thought one Cub is enough...then the Sig 1/6...and thought two Cubs are enough, and now I'm seriously looking at this 1/3...I guess you can't have too many Cubs :D

A question please - apart from the landing gear, is there any call for serious metal work on this model?
I figured if I bought the cowl, and the Robart gear, is the rest of the model conventional wood working?

EF

It is all pretty easy, if you don't want to make the gear shown in the plans you can just by the Robart gear. I don't really see any other metal work. I will make the windsheild plug to make a vac u formed piece, cowl plug to make a fiberglass Cowl. I did see a post from probuilder and he said that he makes the cowl and windshield. It may be worth checking out his parts.

Sunday, worked in the morning glueing together the Left wing. Laying out the holes for the drag braces. Cutting the holes and sanding them out.

Afternoon, back from a day in the pool with the kids. Got a little time to build. Doing the wing tip bracing and sheeting the leading edge.

Glued in the criss cross drag braces. I used 1/4" dowel, the plan called for 1/8" dowel. I know extra weight you may say. Not much and I had the 1/4". ....:D
