Default Large scale warbirds, best ARF for electric conversion?

Hey guys,
Hoping you can advise me on choosing next warbird project. Looking to add to my Top Flite 60 size P-47 and P-51 ARFs. Both were relatively easy to convert to electric with "hidden hatch" ready to be cut out from the fuse. I used Power 90 running on 8S on both and love em.

I would like to find very scale 60 size warbird ARF that either comes with hatch for batteries or easy to modify. Not too particular about model ( other than not thunderbolt or mustang). Considered new TF corsair but called them and told that no hidden hatch built into fuse anymore. The hangar 9 corsair doesn't come with flaps and doesn't seem as scale. Please advise - would love to tackle spitfire, warhawk, etc I could find the right ARF. Help!

Andrew

Though a little smaller than what you have now, Kyosho has a line of 50 size electric warbirds that are very nice. http://www.kyoshoamerica.com/WARBIRD_c_74.html

I converted the ESM Skyraider to electric. Made a hatch right behind the firewall for the batteries. I'm running an Eflite power 160 on 10s (2 x5s) CC 85Hv speed control and a scale 4 blade prop. I can comfortably fly around on 1/2 throttle. With flaps deployed she lands almost like a trainer.

Here's the pictures you asked for. The prop is a Master Airscrew 15.5 x 8. It was the biggest 4 blade I could find without getting into the high dollar blades

Hi Andrew,
I've done hangar-9 Spitfire & P-40. The Spitty is a great candidate for a battery hatch. Here is a link to my hatch thread; http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showt...ight=rickavery
The P-40 not such a good candidate as the space & bulkheads aren't as convienent for such. Both are wonderful fliers with power 60s on 6s. The Spitty has split flaps and lands like a feather. For fear of tip stalling, I land the P-40 a bit fast and let her roll out. The P-40 ended up almost 2lbs. lighter than the Spit although the dimensions are are very similar?? The flaps & servo on the Spit add some, not sure where the rest of it comes from. With identical power systems, the P-40 performs better, 2lbs really shows up. Unfortunately, hangar-9 has discontinued the P-40. I found mine on fee-bay. I think I'd like to do a skyraider as above. Good luck in your search.

Rick

Thanks Rick ,
saw your thread on the hatch cut out and build. Some nice precision work there. still havent decided but leaning toward the Spitfire. Like the hangar 9 as I know their stuff. The Kyosho 50 size Spitty looks nice on the website and some with a battery hatch. Working on some scale touches tom my Mustang so this will keep me busy for awhile. Man the ESM planes look great also - too many options!
