GP PT20 electric motor mounting....
Hi, helping a flying buddy build a PT20 kit. He wants to go electric and has bought a motor. Its a rotating can type so a clamp type mount won't work. The mount also attaches to the front right behind the prop. It is not interchangeable to the back. It needs to be mounted about 3" out from the firewall. Will a stand off type mount work?? Any other ideas will be appreciated!! [8D]

The motor should come with an "X" mount and a second prop adaptor that bolts on to the rotating can (opposite end from the output shaft). This prop adaptor allows you to install the motor "backwards". Mount the X mount to the firewall using stand-offs.

Here's an alternative approach. Took a few minutes to find it. Tower sells this style mount for electric motors.

Another , somewhat lighter, approach is to bolt an oversize "X" mount to the front of the motor then use stand-offs to get the proper firewall to back of prop distance. I use nylon spacers that I get from a hardware or big box store - cheaper lighter and flexible.

Hi all, he bought a Turnigy 4250 1000KV motor from Hobby King. Thank you for the responses. I now see how the prop adapters work from running the prop from the back end of the motor. I didn't know these existed. It gives us more options. Great pictures blvdbuzzard! Will think about both options.
