Default Brushless Tower Trainer 40- which motor?

I'd like to go E-power on a tower trainer 40. Anyone got any recommendations? I did some searching around here and on RCGroups, and seems lots of people here have had good luck with the Kyosho Endoplasma brushed motor, but that's no longer available. I do have a Kyosho Magnetic Mayhem Reverse motor, that I've retrofitted with ball-bearings- but I'm still thinking I'd like to go brushless for the maintenance-free route.

Any sugestions?

Jason

Hi Jason,

After looking at the specs on the [link=http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXCAS2&P=ML]Tower Trainer 40[/link], I can see that it can easily be powered by the following brushless setup.

[ul][*] [link=http://www.hobby-lobby.com/brushless-axi2826.htm]AXI 2826/10[/link] motor[*] [link=http://www.hobby-lobby.com/jetiblue.htm]JESAP40W[/link] Jeti 40-amp ESC w/Programming Card[*] [link=http://www.hobby-lobby.com/brushless-axi2826.htm#Mounting]PM282002[/link] Radial Mount Set[*] [link=http://www.hobby-lobby.com/elecprop.htm]PE14010E[/link] APC 14x10 e-prop[*] [link=http://www.hobby-lobby.com/kokam.htm]FM32003[/link] 3-cell Kokam 3.2AH Lithium pack[*] or a [link=http://www.hobby-lobby.com/hydride.htm]B2600N10[/link] 10-cell 2600mAh NiMH pack
[/ul]

The 10-cell 2.6AH NiMH pack weighs 22.7oz for $80 while the 3-cell Kokam 3.2AH Lithium pack weighs only 10oz for $145. For the additional $65, you get a huge performance boost in longer flights and almost 1lb less weight!

Good luck!

At first I flew mine with the Endoplsma motor using a 10 cell 3300 pack. It ROG'd well off pavement but flew fairly sluggish. I then switched to two 3s1p 1800 lipo packs in parallel which lightened it up but still not a lot of power. Next I switched to a Himax 3618 brushless with an MEC 4:1 gear box and there was a good performance increase but still a lot of weight. I now have that motor with two 4s1p 2600 packs in parallel and man what a difference, I love this plane!! The extra voltage of the 4 cell pack makes a big difference in power and the lightness allows rog in grass in about 20-25ft. Climb is great and even aerobatics are possible. I now have my Endo motor in a Model Tech 300 Extra which is a 3lb plane and it flies great.

Hi I was wondering if the Electric set up for the Tower Trainer would work on a 40 size CD.
Any conversions lately with the new "stuff" out?

Thanks Dan

I'm not sure what a CD is but the AXI power system above will work for most 5lb planes unless you are looking for 3D performance.

Hi Greg Would a 2826/10 work in this plane..The reason I ask is that I'm looking at AeroCrafts APACHE as my 1st electric.. Then onto a 40 size Cloud Dancer.. Would be nice to use the same system in both planes, if that is possible.

I will up to NEAT on Thursday,17th , praying for NO rain this time around..

Thanks Again Dan

Greg,

Will this set-up work for my Hangar 9 Arrow? I will probaly
use the TP 3S2P 4200 since it weighs less and will give longer
flights. What can I expect in terms of flight times?

Thanks,

Also if this is the set-up, I just found a sweet deal on
the TP 3S2P 4200 and a CC45 Esc for $200.00!

What exactly do you have at this point, is it an empty airframe? or is it only lacking a motor?
