Default 1/5 Scale Electric Warbird

Hi all. I am converting my BT 1/5 Spitfire Mk IX 83" to electric. The total weight turns out to be around 23-24 lbs. My batteries are (2 in series) 5S 8000maH Zippy's which are quite heavy. I've settled on using the Turnigy CA80-80-10 motor (max 6500W) along with a 200A speed controller, turning a Zinger 24" either 14 or 16 pitch 4 blade prop. Here is some data from the E-calc software with a prop pitch of 14:

At 12S -
Motor W = 6398
Max motor temp = 145F
Pitch Speed = 69mph
Approx Lvl Speed = 75mph
Flight Time = 4.5 min

At 10S -
Motor W = 4712
max motor temp = 129F
Pitch Speed = 65mph
Approx Lvl Speed = 71mph
Flight Time = 5.1 min

My concern is the motor temps with 12S and using 10S I'm wondering if the level flight speed might be a bit slow. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanx, Mark

You lose a lot of power and efficiency with a 4-blade. I tried turning a Biela 24 x 14 4 blade with a Rimfire65 on 11s and while the amps stayed within reason the motor got too hot and I cooked it. I tried a 22 x 10 4-blade and did not smoke anything but my Aeroworks Mustang flew at less than scale speed and I had to stay at 90% throttle or better so flight duration went in the toilet. Like with 2 stroke gassers I found the 4-blade proposition a bridge too far with electrics too. At least at 1/5th scale size.

My Aeroworks Mustang uses a Rimfire65 with a Castle 160 ESC turning a Zoar 2 blade 22 x 14. The max amps I've seen are 82, my duration is 7 minutes mixed throttle on 5000 mah Nano Techs. This package makes more power than when I had a DA50 in the model turning a 22 x 10 prop. I have a Black Horse Westland Wyvern with a Turnigy 50 Rotomax, Castle 120 ESC on 11s with the same prop and batteries and I'm getting the same performance.

Hope this helps, these packages have been in use In Las Vegas Summers for over two years now with no issues.
