Default SIG Fazer

I've got a SIG Fazer that I'm thinking about converting to e-power. Is this do-able? I've done a search of the forums and haven't seen this discussed.

Since the Fazer was powered by a .40 glow engine, I'll figure that it needs 12-14 cells. This may be heavy for a 3 pound airframe, so I'm looking at 3-4Series LiPOs instead. LiPOs would fit neatly on the profile nose where the glow fuel tank went. With a 3-pound airframe I'd be looking at 150-200 watts to the motor, which would be an outrunner or geared BL.

Has this been done? Or is there an equivalent current electric model that I could use as a go-by?

Actually, you'll need a bit more than 150-200 Watts. The power system will add about 2 pounds to the total weight if you use LiPolys, more if you go with round cells, so you need to plan on at least 5 pounds in your Watts calculations. 200 Watts on 5 pounds is only 40 Watts per pound. This is a Fazer, the original profile fun fly. 40 Watts per pound will barely get it in the air.

You need at least 500 Watts, or 600 Watts if you want the plane to fly as it should.

4S LiPoly would be ideal. That's equivalent to about 14 cells (2S LiPoly is about 7 cells). For an outrunner, I can give my personal recommendation to the AXi 4120/14 to handle that much power. I'm running mine on 16 NiMH cells, and it really has some oomph on my 6lb .40-size Corsair with a 12x8 prop. There is a 4S2P pack of Kokam 2000 15C cells waiting to be installed. Due to the slightly lower voltage, I think I can run a 12x8 3-blade prop for a more realistic look.

For you, I'd recommend putting stilts on the bird and running a 13x10 prop.

Yep, I was being too conservative on the watts. 600W it is.

I've not flown the Fazer in 3-4 years and I've been thinking about selling it and buying some electric gear with the proceeds. But it is a good flyer and I was thinking it would do well electrified.
