Default kadet donversion

I wish to build a lt40 kadet on elect. this ol' geezer wishes to fly easy, circuits and t &gos, No aerobatics or such things. but able to handle winds of 10 to 15 k. I used to fly this plane on glow with a 46 os and it was perfect. I've been told that an Orbit 20-14 with tmm4016-3son 12 cells (gp3300) with a 12 x 6 prop is highly reliable and would work for what I want. Anyone have any experience with a set-up like this ? Any comments would be greatly appreciated by this newby. thanks[8D]

For what you want, you might wish to consider a LT-25 rather than the LT-40. Much less expensive, not quite as large, but a really great slow flyer. By using an AX1 2826, TP 3s2p 4200, berg rx, Hi-tec Hs-81 servos, and SoLite covering, my LT-25 has an AUW of 4 pounds, 2 ozs and is the easiest flying trainer I ever had. Even had the battery fall out in the air (my fault, not well secured) and the plane circled slowly down and landed itself, with NO DAMAGE. What more can you ask for as an easy flyer? By the way I also have a 46 glow LT-40 and consider it a great trainer also; its just that the LT-25 is a much better value (after considering the cost of electric conversion) in my opinion.

There is an excellent build thread on RC Groups on converting an LT-25. but about the only modification really needed IMHO is to enlarge the hatch cover so that batteries can be changed without removing the wing.

I agree that the LT 25 is a better plane for electric power. It is all balsa, laser cut and very light for its size. It converts very well to electric power. Having said that, I converted an LT-40 to electric by first building a new fuse with balsa instead of using the light(?) ply. I used the wing as is and built a battery hatch in the bottom. It flew well with an Astro 25G and 16 cells.
I now have rebuilt it for pul-pull tail wheel and will modify the front hatch for battery pack removal. The power is from a Mega 22-30-3 and Model Air tech belt drive at 3:1 ratio, CC Phoenix 80 ESC and UBEC for rxcr power. I plan to fly it using 16 -18 GP 3300 cells.
Ahhh, but the weather is not so good for flying things outside right now, but It should fly just fine even with 16 cells.
Good luck with yours. Jollyroger

On the other end you can consider a Kadet Senior. It is very lightweight for its size and a number of conversions have been done.

I fly the World Models Super Frontier 82 inch span, 1232 sq in, 9 lbs, with a mega 45-3, MEC Superbox 2.5:1 16x10 APC, 16-20 Nicds 1700 or Nimh3300. Tremendous climb, huge loops, 7-15 minutes.

email another old geezer pete at www.modelelectronicscorp.com. he's familiar with LT40 too.

here's mine http://www.pam-rc.org/SLAC%20Mosaic.jpg

I've flown my Seniorita with a 1409/2Y, 3.7:1, 12x8, 14-2000SCR.

It does pretty well.
