Need help sizing motor & equipment!
Howdy,
I must confess that I am a nitro breathing fool, but I would like to try my hand at electrics. Here we go right? The subject plane is a 24 oz. 1/2 A size float plane (flying boat) The wingspan is 44" and the kit calls for an .061 to .10 size engine. What do I stick in there if I want to go electric? What voltage, How many amps? What gear do I need? Why do zebras have stripes. Got carried away.
Thanks in advance
Hec

The plane weighs in at 24 oz. I want enough power to do some mild aerobatics. I would like long flight times though.

I believe you will need 100+ watts/oz for aerobatics. 150+w/oz for 3D. That being said, you'll need a 240 watt motor system. Do you want geared or outrunner? Li-poly batts will give you long flight times at a cost(charger).

Thanks for the reply,
I believed an outrunner is what I would like. Since the model calls for an .061 to .10 size engine and the engine is mounted over the wing on a pod I am limited to Prop dia. The largest diameter prop i could use would be in the order of 7". Anything larger and the prop will hit the top of the wing.
Here is a link of the model.
