RE: Hangar 9 33% Edge 540 - Part 3
Hi Greg or anyone else who might know what is causing a problem I'm having with my set-up. The problem is when I throttle up I get gliches, this doesn't happen all the time and I can't find the cause. Someone suggested using a ferrite ring ( spelling? ) on the esc wire going to the RX. I have no clue where to get one of those. I have made sure the servo wires are not touching and all are secured. Please help!

My son had the same problem. After replacing everything, he finally solved the problem with a toroid around the esc lead. He found one at his lhs. Here's another possibility. http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...tId=2103979&cp

Here's another solution. The FMA [link=http://www.fmadirect.com/Detail.htm?item=1762§ion=52]605SB Servo Buffer[/link].

After measuring the stock motor box, the new box extension design can be started. The distance from the main fuse firewall to the back of the spinner backplate is 13.0"

Thank you Guys for the replies, I have a Radio Shack close by and tryed the toriod choke, it didn't work, what next? Greg, does that servo buffer connect to the esc then the RX? And have you used it before? Oh no, I really should pm you guys instead of interupting Greg's build tread, sorry. Thank you

Yes, it goes in-line with any servo connection to the receiver and regenerates the signal.
Try also changing the orientation or proximity of the ESC and receiver. Sometime the noise is radiated from the ESC. Also make sure that your antenna wire does not pass by the ESC.

lbf,
I can guarantee you that if the ESC and receiver are anywhere near each other, you'll have a problem with glitching. IMHO, the best solution is six degrees of separation. That is, put the ESC as far up front as possible, and the receiver as far back as possible. On larger planes, the receiver isn't going to affect the balance enough that you should even consider moving it up front to save on adding lead. It won't make 1/2oz difference.

The new motor mounting project has begun. Note the plywood ring reinforcement on the back side of the new firewall to keep the T-nuts flush with the front side. The T-nuts are also the version that uses screws to hold them in place so that large prongs don't tear and weaken the aircraft grade plywood.
I have also removed the existing 5330 motor and PVC parts from the stock motor box.

LOL! Yeah, you know it will show up on this forum soon in another project.
By springtime, the ARF manufacturers will likely bombard us with another wave of new models.

See it?!? You're gonna 3D it for me, right?
I want to see your version of Bill Hemple in the Tucson Shootout video.
As you can see, whenever Paul Weigand gets a hold of the project, it turns into a work of art! To create the precise bolt pattern needed for this prop and spinner, Paul has the proper mill and lathe needed to do the job. We are also supplying the bolt pattern to TruTurn so others can simply order the proper backplate for this motor.
The all aluminum TruTurn 4" Ultimate Menz spinner (p/n TT-4052-B-M-L) weighed only 4-1/4oz compared to my 6oz red plastic cone CBA spinner. The TruTurn spinners and Mejzlik carbon props are truely well crafted parts!

The new motor box assembly seemed to go well. It's a great honor to have a dedicated craftsmen and modeler like Paul Weigand help me out. With the tremendous power of this double AXI 5330 motor, we want to make sure that there are no weak points in the assembly.

We decided to mount the two ESC’s on standoffs so they could be wired up to the motor and mounted without the cowl in place. We also added a hole behind the motor mount so the wires can be attached to the ESC’s without extensions. The cowl then slips on and the heat sinks are exposed to direct air cooling as before.

Greg,
That is a very nice looking installation you have there. It looks like a nice radiator mounted down there on the bottom of the cowl. Very slick.
