Default Newbie needs help.....25 Glow to Electric

Guys,

A buddy of mine wants to convert a modified Butterfly with a Norvel .25 on it that he uses to take pictures with, over to electric. It weighs 5 lbs and the Norvel is plenty of power, but he wants to get rid of the vibration, and turning the engine on and off would be sweet for picture taking. He only needs to be up 5 to 10 minutes at a time, and once a day or every 3 or 4 hours is fine. No big hurry to fast charge batteries for the next flight. So far what we've come up with is out of the Tower sale catalog.....The motor is a RimFire Out-Runner 35-30-1450. It's SUPPOSED to replace a .25 glow engine. They say it will swing a 9 x 6E prop. We were going to go with a 2100-3cell Li-Po pack. Would a 15C amp battery be strong enough, or do we need the 20C? How important is it to get the cell ballance feature?

Are we close on any of this, or are we way out there in left field! Any input would be greatly appreciated.....

Definatly a 20c-30c lipo. If you dont balance yu lipo your looking at only getting about 80 cycles out of it. On the other hand if you balance you li-pos you should get 300 cycles easy.

I would almost reccomend a 4 cell instead of a 3 cell.

Thanks.........now we're getting somewhere. We know about gassers and glow, but the electric stuff is new to both of us.....

Tower is showing calling it a SS45......ESC# TG4539. Don't know what all that means.

Can these motors run on anything from 2 to 4 cell LiPo without damaging them?

Does the speed control have to be matched up to the cell count of the battery?
