First off I'm starting to question my motor choice. Hacker 13xl witha 3.75 :1 planetary gear on a 6s 5000 mah pac and a Ice 75. any thoughts ?? Also the H9 Corasair has a pos. angle built into the fire wall but i can't find any imfo on why. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Denny,
First, with so many outrunners avaliable with different power ratings, why use a gear-box? E-flite, Rimfire, Scorpion, Axi and many others make several motors that will haul a 60e sized plane around just fine. Many ARFs have the thrust angle built into the firewall to aid in motor installation. Most planes need some down & right angle added to the thrust line. These H-9 60s both run on e-flite power 60s and fly very well. Good luck

Toss the gear box. To much noise and work.

This will pull your plane around and you can use a scale prop too.

Well, there are a couple of basic questions, how heavy is the plane ready to fly? How much ground clearence do you have for your prop? Many bipes are notorious for being tail heavy as they have a short nose on them, this will determine how far forward you need to place the battery pack, (most likely the single heavest moveable item). Once I've decided on a power plant/ESC/BEC/prop package, I try to dry assemble as much of the plane as possible to determine how the CoG is working out. I adjust the battery, Rx, & Servo locations to hopefully keep from adding lead to balance. On a plane that size, I use a stand alone BEC and a seperate Rx battery to power up Rx, servos, landing gear... These are other items that can be moved around to help accomodate balance. Good luck.

I would think that motor would work fine with an APC 15 X10 prop on a 6s 4000 - 5000 Lipo. Close to 100watts/Lb. Good luck!

I have a Monster Power 46 in my Giles 202. I run it with a 13X6 prop on 5s. It puts out about about 7.5 pounds of thrust and I am at the edge of its limits.

I ran the numbers through this on line calc program.

http://www.ecalc.ch/motorcalc.htm?ecalc&lang=en

Eflite 46 with 4s battery

says about 7.4 pounds of thrust at 52 amps

Using 6s and a 15X10 prop on the Eflite 46 would just melt it.

Calc program says 112 amps motor limit is 55.

Would be better to use the Tacon 60, swinging a 18X8 prop on a 6s battery. Close to 12 pounds thrust at 50ish amps.

I'd also look at an E-Flite power 52. 1650W, 6C, 5000mah battery. 75-85A ESC.
12x8x3 MA prop.  a ten to 11 Lb plane should have a T/W ratio of about 1:23
The 52 has a higher kv rating (570-590) than the 60.
