1/2a texaco

I have a Commando(RCassist)oldtimer powered by a reed valve .049(Cox .049 Texaco). I would like to convert that to electric power. It will not be flown every day. What motor unit should I look at??
Thanks,

Hard to say without more info, but probably any 200 watt motor will move it pretty well.

With it being a slower flying type plane, you can get away with a lot of different motors. So a lower KV rating swinging a larger prop.

I have a couple of these [link=http://www.hobbypeople.net/index.php/engines-motors/motors-escs-more-1/brushless-rc-aircraft-motors-1/kms-31-21-brushless-motor-51g-1750kv.html] Budget motor[/link] I am running a GWs orange 10X4.7 prop with a 3s battery. Pulls the 12 ounce plane around very well.

I have this one too. I use a smaller prop to go faster. [link=http://www.hobbypeople.net/index.php/engines-motors/motors-escs-more-1/brushless-rc-aircraft-motors-1/2208-09-brushless-motor-w-hardware.html]motor 2[/link]

So, these will fly it in a slower manner like a powered glider. It will not fly it like a pylon racer. I have used these motors to fly a 60 inch glider. It would not win a speed contest, yet it climbed up nicely and I was able to get some good air time with them.

Buzz.

I have a Midwest Super Sniffer .049 free flight that I converted to electric RC with a Rimfire 1000 and a 640mah 11.1v pack, great flying plane.

Hi,

Is that the 50" Commando kitted by Midway Models ??

I used an old Brushed Speed 400, 20 Amp ESC, and 1300 mAh 7.4V, 2 cell, Li-Po in mine.

I built too much dihedral in mine, causes a "Dutch Roll" if I give it too much power. Normally it does just fine. Covered in Orange and White "Lite Span". Not too good for competition, but great for everyday flying.
