Wood prop vs. sythetic/gas prop vs. elecric on electric conversion

Hanger 9 .40 cub; .46 size motor. Any experience using a wood prop designed for gas (12 x 8) on my electric. Or a synthetic prop (12 x 8) designed for gas on my electric? Pros and cons if you use a gas built prop on an electric motor?

About the only thing I would say is that the wood and fiber glow/gas props are going to be a lot heavier then the thin "E" props. The APC E prop, I think, was made to produce more thrust at a lower RPM. My electric planes run about 8,000 to 10,000 compare to the glow engines at 13,000 or so. I could be wrong though.

Buzz.

Completed the maiden with wood gas prop on the electric J-3 Cub above. No problem. Esc and motor cool after 8 minutes.</p>

Hi

Electric props are designed to produce less drag resulting in less amps the motor drains out of the battery.
The airfoil of the APC-E props is much thinner as on the same sizeglow version.
If you use a glow prop, you usually waste flying time.

But even if you compare E propsthere arebig differences.
My RV-4 from GPis powered with a Rimfire 1.20 motor. The motor uses about 82 amps with a 6S 5000mAh battery and a
16x8 APC-E prop.
But it only uses 75 amps with a 16x10 Fiala wood e-prop.

The Fiala prop has a much better efficiency, givesthe airplane a better speed and a better climb performance AND it uses 7 amps less than the APC-E prop.
Thats why i tend to exchange my APC-E props with Fialas.
Fiala might be the best e-prop money can buy.
The only problem is, that it is hardly available.

Andi
