Great Planes J 3 Cub Conversion to Electric
I have a Great Planes (five foot wingspan) Piper Cub Kit which is designed for gas. Has anyone information regarding the feasibility of converting this to electric power?

I converted this model last year ..it goes very well on an Astro25G motor with 16 2000 cells ..baggs of pwer ..would run on 14 cells if you want less performance.

This is the .20-size Cub, right?
I guess the real question is, how much do you really want to spend? While an Astro 25G on 16 cells will work, it's a lot of extra weight, and serious overkill on power given today's technology. You can easily power this plane with 10 cells, or a 3S LiPoly. Being mostly familiar with the AXi outrunners, I'd say an AXi 2820/10 with an 11x8 prop on 10 NiMH or 3S LiPoly. Less power, but lots lighter so overall, it's a wash. With the LiPolys, I'd be surprised if you didn't come out lighter than the glow version. |

Did you take any steps to minimize weight? Seems like the ply fuselage construction could come out pretty heavy.
