Shrike Commander

Hi All !

I am wanting to build a shrike commander and there are plans for one on the RCM magazine plans pages. It is for I think .049 - .051 power, has anyone ever built one of these and converted it to electric? OR has anyone ever built any variety of shrike commander for electric? Eagerly await any replies

Kind regards

Matt

Not really mate, I do not know how to, just google up RCM Magazine and follow through to the plans page. They are listed by category, the plan can be found under either electric or scale. Pretty easy to find that way. It appears however to be a foam wing. I do not have the equipment or knowledge needed to cut foam wings. I have found the Gus Morfis plan for one however that is strictly balsa / ply construction, which is exactly what I am after for a first time twin model. It will be two speed 400s. They will be a lot easier to get the same power out of rather than trying to tune two .049 gas / reed valve engines!!

Cheers

Actually, back in the 70s ACE used to sell this little Shrike as a kit! A few years back, I saw the same airplane fly with 2 Speed 480s (Kyosho AP29BB motors) on 7 cells - it was awesome! I love the Shrike so I spent years trying to track down the kit...

I found one that was partially assembled and one kit brand new in the box! Unfortunately, Im moving in a few weeks and will be selling off most of my kits and infinished projects, so both the partial and NIB kit will be sold.

If youre interested, Id let the kit go for $80+ shipping to AUS. You can email me direct if youd like to know more:

That's very kind offer LVRCFlyer. But my sister in the US has ordered the gus morfis plans for me already. I am kind of a scratch builder anyway, just to keep my hand in. Nobody seems to scratch build anymore. Most people down here say "I'm building this or that", and what they really mean is they are assembling a pre fabricated model!
It's just kinda nice to take a big pile of balsa ply and solarfilm, install radio gear and fly! It's becoming a dying art! Mind you they crash worse!!! Thanks again though LVRC, if I could afford it I'd buy your kit as well.

Cheers!

An interesting topic. I have a Kyosho kit for a Shrike Commander from the 70's. It was designed for two .09's originally. I just took it down from the shelf and was looking at what needed to be done to make it electric. There is a lot of structure and I'm sure it will need some heavy surgery.
