This is what was recomended AXI 2826/10, a 12 cell pack,JESA 40 controller and 11x8 APC electrc prop..I'm looking for a rocket ship, just a nice relaxing plane to fly..

PS I have 4 glow CD's a 40,60 built from and old Ace kit, And 2 built from short kits both 40 size..

THanks Dan

My fellow flyer John aka pmpjohn on ezonemag.com did it with a 4120 from AXI. Great preformer but a high speed lander.

Yep, that's why AXi came out with the 2826 series motors. When I went to convert my .46-size F4U Corsair last summer, AXi only had the 2820 and 4120 series motors to choose from. The 2820s were too light-duty to handle the power I wanted, and while the 4120 could easily handle the juice, it was pretty heavy for a .46-size conversion. I went with the 4120/14, which was nearly enough to balance the plane on its own.

The 2826 series motors are designed to fill that niche. From the looks of the tables, they can handle 500 Watts or so, and spin props that are practical on .40-size airplanes. Now I just need one for my Great Planes Big Stik 40 that's on the bench.

DBono99, for someone who doesn't know much about electrics, you sure did well on your first time out! :D That power system should give you exactly what you want in that cloud dancer. If it doesn't, you can always run a bigger prop, up to 40 Amps, or add cells.

Hi Matt The system for the 40CD came from L.A. Johnson of Hobby Lobby..I was up at NEAT on Friday, hoping to see some 40/60 conversions..I was also checking out some smaller Electric's.. Maybe buying a package deal with everthing included.. The smaller planes seem to fragile..So I came home empty handed..

I still may get my feet wet with a smaller plane..I.E.Stevens G-ride 300,Tantrum,Apache.
I'm finishing up a glow project right now. Once done I can concentrate on the electric's.

Thanks Dan

I have wondered what AXI motor was good for a CD-40,I like the plane.I have one that I fly with a AF-40 geared,20 cells,MA 12/8,6 lbs. It's Agood plane and floats in for a landings.I have one with a 52 4-cycle and they both fly the same.

Have you considered 2 x 4 cell 2600Ma/H Lipoly packs running in parrallel?
Double the endurance (and flight time) of a 12 cell pack and 1/2 the weight.

DBonno,

What did you use? How did it work?

Rex sorry for the late reply..I haven't been back to this post in awhile..The 40 size Cloud Dancer is in my plans some time down the road.. I'm just finishing my 2nd E-plane Stevens Aeromodels G-ride 300, AUW 16ozs..My 1st attempt with electric's was with a plane called the Apache a kit by Aero Crafts..Looks somewhat like the Cloud Dancer's.. AXI 2820/10 jeti 40,PL 3s2100, apc e 9x6..Great flying plane..Got me hooked on Electric's..

I have three 40 size Cloud Dancer's and a 6 size, all glow..Was thinking I just might hack out a hatch in one of them..Take the easy way out..Although if built from scratch, It will be lighter..
Probably looking at an AXI 2826/10/12 for it.

The Axi 412018 on a 5s pq 4000mah pack with a 15x10 apc eprop yields about 850 watts. If your CD really needs a performance boost this setup will do the trick. Serious whoopie factor for pattern flying or 3D silliness.

happy holidays -rjf

Thanks for the fast reply..But at 850 watts I'll go to the moon..I was thinking maybe 80/100 w/lb. I'm looking around to see IF any Lazer cutters can down size the 40 CD to about 36" Wing Span..start small and then work my wayup to the 40 size..In my hangar I have 4 glow Cloud Dancers..I have the 40 & 60 size built from old Ace kits.. I also have to other 40 size, which were modified from the original CD..The Red is the one that was modified

Happy Holidays to you rjf

Dan
