Here is a short video I made running the Generic 36A engine, that I got from Hobby Parts a little while ago, today. I was using a 10x6 MA propeller with 5% nitro glow fuel. Using a 9x6 MA prop had it turning about 14,500 rpms too.

Earlwb,
I noticed in your video that the muffler was stretched outrather than being all the waypushed together. What was the reason for this?

That is a muffler extension. it was not stretched out, that is the way it comes in the box.
It improves performance a little. Also if they put in a extra baffle it helps reduce noise levels a little as well.
a number of engine brands are doing it too. They add a length of cylinder to the muffler to make it longer.

I just received an (ASP) .91 4 stroke from Hobbypartz with no "ASP" marking. For the price, I took a chance... Hope it runs! I have an ASP .40 from a looooong time ago that still runs but needs a rebuild and has been as good any other I've owned. (O.S. not included)

My (sort of ASP) .36 came in yesterday. I was surprised that there were no instructions, part list or warrantywith it.

For the record, there is no warranty on these except as a shipping return in as new in original packaging condition.

There are no parts available at this time.

You will have to use Magnum parts in the USA

So what's the difference between the ASP S15A engine @ 44 bucks and the ASP 15A engine at 55 bucks?

That's a good question. I am thinking for the extra money it is actually branded ASP on the case...LOL

I think it actually had ASP on the side of the crankcase for the extra price. Conveniently they are out of stock. I suspect there is some sort of a agreement with the Magnum engine importers that state no one else can import or sell "official" ASP engines in the USA.
Now then the AII generic engines has a remote needle valve whereas the A generic engines have a regular needle valve carb on them.

Warranty, instructions and parts? Not for these prices. Now if it is more or less unopened you could return it though.

As far as I can tell all of the generic engines I played with worked OK. or at least they all worked for me OK.

It makes me wonder why Bob Davis doesn't jump on the bandwagon and begin offering conversion heads for Sanye produced engines. My Sanye engines are holding up well and have been since 1988. Come on Bob, before I have to see if Mr. Coholic will make some conversion heads for my Sanye enginesl

I had two ASP's from Indy R/C and one from Horizon. Then I bought three from Just Engines when the exchange rate was 1.4. I bought a couple Magnums from Hobby People.

I know what you mean, Martin. Greg does good work. We'll be buying his stuff one of these days. Soon, I hope.

Bob Davis does terrific work. I have a boat load (no pun intended) of Chinese made engines and I would like to convert some of them to model diesel operation. Come on, Bob!!! <G>

I suspect in the earlier days the Chinese engines had such hit and miss quality that it was risky to make diesel heads for them.
I would think that with some of the Japanese engine look alikes, that you could order a head for a brand name engine and it would fit.

The ASP is a good quality engine Just Engines has sold them for years, as a matter of fact I had a few minutes today and benched
my ASP 12 with A.Js head (diesel) 9x5 wood zinger 10,100 Revs ,good transition nice, no burps or misses having some Davis Plane fuel used that a little extra oil good thing, it never saw glow fuel, after 15 minutes or so that nice bounce on flipping martin
They show (just engines) folks buying 7 x3 and 7 x4 props for the 12 as a glow that seems a little light even for glow it jumps to 8x4
to 8x6 for ASP 15 (glow) martin

Just checked the price at JE they run about 42$ US, the 15 about 61$, not bad, fiqure $10 shipping

I love my ASP .12 engines. They run like much larger glow engines. It would be fun to try them running model diesel fuel. Does AJ make heads for anyone upon request? Or is he just making conversion heads for friends?

The .12 are nice engines. With the twin needle carb they throttle just as well as much larger engines.
They do like to rev a little, an APC 7x4 is about the largest I would use, and get around 15500rpm on 10% nitro. On a 6.5x5 they really come alive though and will do around 18000rpm with a healthy scream to it.

You are correct on all points, Mr. Cox.

I really get a kick out of smallish glow engines that behave as though they were 10cc pattern engines. Another favorite or two of mine are the old HB .15 baffle piston engines with Perry type carbs and the OS .25 thru .37 FSR type of engines that also behave like much larger engines.

The ASP S15 should be the latest one (blue head) and it performs better.

ORIGINAL: Broken Wings

I just won a NIB ASP 108A on *bay with a bunch of other stuff.

Has anyone ever had an experience with one of these engines back-firing in the air and running backwards?

Sold my ASP 108a for $80 shipped. Found a "minty" O.S. 108 for $85...

I just didn't want to fool with it. "For Me" it was a no-brainer deciding which one to keep....
