just waiting for the 777 to come in for my 89 in flair Stearman, I have my new 999 Evo on my 93 in corsair and got the third flight on it this weekend I think I finally found the right 2 blade prop a xoar 26x10, black with yellow tips ww2, turns 5000 to 5100 RPM on the ground pulls my corsair pretty good at 36 lbs. now to find a 3 blade at the same RPM would be great.

I sent the engine in for valve lashing and someone there had set the timing wrong, and when I got it back, I put 5 flights on the Corsair and some thing went wrong, the valve keepers came off and. Push rods fell out again, so I sent it back, I thought maybe I over revved the engine, but they said that the timming was apparently off, so they sent me a new engine, so I AM BACK IN THE AIR and so far so good running Great!!

Hi everybody! I just received my Evo 7-35 and today I did some break-in on it. The engine starts very easily and feels already reliable, even if it has only 600cc of fuel through it. I only used glow support for starting, and then unplugged it, I never had a cylinder quit, I use 5% nitro and 9% oil.
Vibrations are close to none, and it is quiet even on staight pipes, so far I am very happy with this engine , I'm just deciding where to put it, I think I'll go for a GP military Stearman as it would be very nice exposed.
Do you have any suggestions of other ARFs suitable for this engine?
I saw the new P-47 .60 from hangar-9 but I guess the shape of the cowl would make it impossible for it to fit without some cylinders sticking out.
For anyone interested in seeing a video of nothing new...here it is

UMS 770 Max Static RPM
Well, at long last I broke in my UMS-Seidel ST-770 and flew it in a giant Telemaster. Break-in sure takes a while (some 30 short runs on the ground for two hours, then 8 flights for another hour). Now flying on 8% oil & ~5% nitro with a 23x8 Turnigy CF prop, and it will loop the 35# Tellly.
Had a question about the max rpm, which my handbook lists as 6,300 rpm. I've been setting the HS needle to give ~5,400 rpm on the ground (static), peak rpm is around 6,000. She seems to want to run more like 5,700 rpm static, though, and I'm contemplating running up there, figuring that the 23x8 won't unload all that much. The advice in the manual (UMS and Evolution) of 10% less rpm than static peak seems a bit conservative in my experience; I tend to set my engines about 300-400 rich off peak.
Anticipating suggestions of more prop pitch, let me say a 23x8 is 96% of the load of a 22x10, and is preferred because we fly off a 200' runway where thrust is valued more than speed (especially on a Telemaster!). Engine is actually destined for a 97" Gee Bee Y, so the idea is to save refining the prop selection for that airframe.
It's just that the engine doesn't quite break out into full "song", if you will. Do folks think another few hundred rpm is safe for the newly broken-in (maybe still breaking-in) engine?

Well I have 8 flights on my corsair swinging a 26x10 @ 4800 RPMS and is running good , one problem I am having. Tis when I go for the next flight the bottom two cyl. Has oil filling the glow plugs and it will not clear out, so I have to take them out, blow them out and re light them on my power panel put them back in and get a flight and repeat the proccess for thr next flight, any sugestions?

Hi, take a look at my Fokker Dr. 1 an old Great Planes arf.
http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=KUmfH3YO9As
This is really a great engine, so much value for your money, how about a Ziroli Beach 18 with two 7-35 in it ? I ' m also looking for a model where you can see the engine, no cowling, perhaps a small Swordfish. Has aneyone tried the Great Planes Waco ?

Today I ran the engine for another 600cc tank (the 3rd one) and closed the HS needle a bit (now it is 2 turns out from fully closed), it spins a MenzS 18x8 at 7100 rpm, with idle solid at 1400 rpm (methinks the low end needle is on the rich side, but I'll leave it there for now). I was a bit scared of over-revving it as Evolution states rpm range as 1000-6300, what do you think?

Hi all radial engine friends.
I have repaired my 7-35, new type of carburetor and new bearings etc..
I mounted engine for a test drive.
engine va a disaster to drive, when I pull down at idle and will shut down
so would rise the speed.
I have found the problem but you may have to consider a time
I will return in a few days

Needle Bearing Replacement
Anyone ever replace the needle bearing on the master rod?
I've come by a used Evolution 7-35 that has quite a bit of conrod slop. Taking the clip and washer off the crankpin, one can see the pin moving around inside the bearing as the crank is turned. The other crank/cam bearings seem fine, smooth with no play.
I'm thinking if I remove the front case, the cam ring and crank will all come off in one piece, leaving the crankcase, with the cylinders, pistons & rods intact. Heat the crankcase to something north of 375 F to pull out the bearing and replace it, or maybe just use a torch on the master rod to minimize heating the whole works (if it's good enough for Clarence Lee, why not?). Does that sound reasonable, or is there a better approach? Apart from just mailing it in to Horizon, that is?

Push Rod Question
Ok, I've been lurking for 5 months and just bought a used 7-35 which arrived today. Somehow during transit, 9 of the pushrods fell out and 4 of the cam followers/lifters fell out. Is this normal to fall out? Now I know on car engines keeping these in their proper up down / locations would be important. Do I start over with a new set or just reinstall?
Final question (I expect to get flamed on this) one of the push rods has about 0.015 bend/run out on it. Straighten, leave alone or replace?

They fall out often in shipment, Cattledog, no big deal. Just put them back. What is important is to set the valve lash (gap), once the engine is on a plane and you're getting close to flying it. These engines have a cam ring, and when you set each valve you need to next check it at two other positions on the cam ring. Just make sure there is always a gap, so the valve is sure to close. There is a post a while back that describes how to do this, basically you find the next cam by turning the prop through two rotations. Once flying I've never had them fall out.
I wouldn't worry about the bent pushrod, either. If need be, you can purchase a set of them and cam followers for something like $3 at Phil's Hobby Shop (Ft Wayne).
