The Enya 40XZ is unbeatble. It is the best in any aspect you can think of : Performance, Weight, Looks, Durability, Metalurgy, After Sales, Warranty.
If you look at $/Hours of service it is also the cheapest! .....what makes me to remember....highest resale value too

I have heard that the Kyosho .40 is manufactured by Sanye as well. However, that does not mean that its timing and level of finish are the same as other Sanye engines, in and of itself.

Hi!
The Kyosjo GX-40 is the same engine as ASP but with a little larger silencer exhaust opening.
These engines are made by Sanye in China.
Whether or not Magnum is the same engine I don't know.

Hi!
Sorry!
But the Kyosho GX .40 is much more powerfull! And much cheaper! We have tried the new Enya in Q-500 racing and it's not that good!

What are the chances of a cheap chinese made engine sold on trainers, outperform a high performance Japanese engine? Are you sure you are talking about the high performance Enya 40XZ and not the sport Enya SS40?

Pretty good I would say.
The original ASP .46 would outperform an OS .46SF.
I know first hand ... I had both.
The latest Sanye engines are light years ahead of their earlier 90's offerings.

The Evolution .46 is a good engine too. My older .46NT had a lot more power over the FX it replaced.R

That Evolution .46 must be one strong engine, then. The OS .46 FX engines that I have seen are pretty strong.

Magnum XLS. New about $85.00. Bullet proof, comes with a 3 year warranty and is MADE IN AMERICA. Service ctr in Calif.
They are made in China and 3 years ago they gave you 3 year warranty; 2 years ago it was 2 year warranty; and now it is only 1 year warranty. That being said I do belive the Magnum XLS46 when on sale (right now they sale for $69) is the best value for your money. Power and dependability wise it compares to all other 46 sport engines from OS, Thunder Tiger, Super Tiger, Enya, and Evolution.

Hi!
Yeah! The Kyosho .GX .40 out performs most other engines, including Rossi.40, OS.40FX and all others except TT.40 PRO SE and Webra .40 GT (Unfortunately discontinued), which are equally good or slightly better.

If the Kyosho .GX .40 outperforms the Rossi .40 it deserves some serious respect. In my experience albeit heavy, the Rossi was the most powerful .40 excluding Jetts and/or Nelsons. I may have to play with one.

Hi!
Try one!
The Kyosho ( I have three of those) all turn RAM or Graupner Cam-prop, 10x6 props (Best props for our Q-500 racing class that only allows 10x6 props) at 14000-14100rpm using a Nova -Rossi 4 or Merlin glow plug using 80/20 fuel and with both head shims removed.
The Rossi .40 is close but it's too heavy, weigh 50g more than most .40 engines so it is seldom choosen for that reason. The OS .40 FX turns the same props at around 13600-13700rpm...compares to a wast difference in speed when flying pylon racing!
What is so remarkable is that the Kyosho GX .40 also can handle large 12x6 props without problem! In contrast the Rossi .40 only like smaller props and the largest ones it is capable to swing are 11x4 or 11x5.

RE: Best all around 40 size engine
Glad to see Turk1 mentioned the JBA line of engines. They are available from http://www.kangkeusa.com or http://bj-model-engines.com/home.html. JBA is an OEM engine maker, and they are reported to also manufacture the SK 2-stroke engine line and the VMax engine line distributed by http://www.richmondrc.com in Canada.
In addition to offering a .39 and a .46 2-stroke under the JBA brand name, you can get the SK .50 2-stroke, the .46 and .52 VMax Pro, and the superlative JBA .56 2-stroke. If all glow engines were as inexpensive, reliable, and user friendly as the JBA .56 2-stroke, electric aircraft models would be a weird niche instead of a revolution right now.
What makes shopping for a .40 ~ .46 2-stroke glow engine such a challenge these days is the fact that there really isn't a bad choice out there anymore. The Sanye and GMS manufactured brands (Sanye makes Evolution, ASP, Magnum, Kyosho while GMS makes Tower Hobbies, Super Tigre) are all reliable and a good value. Even the $49.99 Aviastar 2-stroke distributed by Sig Manufacturing is a powerful and reliable engine if you don't get one with a bad carburetor.
I own the Magnum XLS .46A and the Magnum XL .52RFS like the original poster purchased. If his experience with his Magnum engines is similar to mine, he will be happily flying both for a long time to come.

Is it alright to run castor oil blend fuel in the 4 stroke Magnum I bought or does it gum or carbon them up? I bought the .52RFS.

It is O.K. to run on castor based fuel as long as you inspect the engine occasionally for carbon builup in the exhaust valve and exhaust area.

Castor oil is okay in four-strokes as long as you ensure that the mixture is slightly rich throughout the entire flight. Hence, set the high speed needle with only a minimum of fuel in the fuel tank with the nose elevated. This simulates a worst possible scenario. Yes, the engine will run uncustomarily rich when the nose is lowered to normal position. This will guarantee that the engine will not be able to run lean at any time during the entire flight.
If you can't live with the above, run mostly synthetic oil with just a couple of percent of castor oil in the mix (this is what I do). You'll have the protection of castor oil without the carbon/varnish build-up of burning more castor oil.
