180 Saito
Have torn down engine complete, there is some scuffing to the rod as well as the inside of the case. The rear bearing let go completely. My question, does the scuffing to rod cause any problems. Also we see the dot on the cam gear, is there a dot on the crank shaft. Thanks Bob

RE: 180 Saito
The crankpin is what the rod fits onto to move the piston up and down as the crank rotates.
Boca Bearings is a source for bearings if you don't buy from Horizon directly.
RC Bearings is another source too.

RE: 180 Saito
The problem with Saito parts in the USA is that most hobby shops rely on Horizon's inventory for spare parts.
Horizon is Out Of Stock of just about whatever part you happen to need at any one time and so is everyone else. Often, the part is sold out before it comes into stock. If you don't get yourself on the back order que, you may be 6 mos or a year ever finding it in stock. I'm sure some bean counter is proud of sales versus inventory levels at Horizon but it is certainly frustrating to the consumer.

Snooping around on Google, I find that . . . .
This Saito 180 was bought from Loopman in late October of last year and so Mr Lin Cordray is apparently the one that sold a run to death Saito 180 on RCU?
Loopman is a horse trader. He buys up local surplus hobby items around Duluth, GA (just N. E. of Atlanta) and resells them on the Internet - Ebay, RCU, and other places.

I doubt he actually had enough skill to actually determine anything about this Saito 180 engine that he probably picked up as a consignment item from the local hobby shop?
This is the guy who recently asked how to install CAMSHAFT bearings in a CRRC 40 gas two stroke engine among other beginner questions?

RE: 180 Saito
You get what you pay for, I was luckie enough to have brought at a good price so I can afford to put a little money in engine. One of the cam lobes is very sharp on it's peak, was going to replace cam but Horizon does not show one. We are going to do a complete overhaul, piston, ring, rod, bearing and cam if we find it. Thank always for your imput

Horizon's web site gets worse every day as far as finding anything goes . . . .
Here is the cam for the Saito 180

Bob, one of the cam lobes should be sharp. I ham fisted the intake jam nut on my 1.50 breaking the cylinder. I saw that cam and though it was worn. I bought a new one with the cylinder and and, you guessed it, the new one looks exactly the same. This is the old one.

Have ordered all parts from Horizon, they did not state in order that rod was a back order so maybe I will get it. We are going to replace the cam as it is grooved where trappet runs. What lubes the cam as the cam box was very dry, dry to point that there was powder residue. Thanks Bob

Bob, Saitos seem to need external lubrication to the cambox. Pour some lube oil in there to coat everything well and you should be done. Just check it once in a while. Do the same for the valve covers.

RE: 180 Saito
Bob, he obviously ran it on all synthetic lube, that explains both the grooved cam and the dry. A few years ago I bought a used MDS 1.48 and one of the brags in the description was that it had never seen castor. It too was bone dry inside and the rear bearing cage was rusted tin and the ring was rusted to the cylinder. So, Mr Boca cured the bearings and $37.00 to horizon fixed the piston, ring and cylinder.
