Default RPM vs cylinder head temperature on O.S.46AX

Hi,

I have a O.S. 46AX and Eagletree Telemetry System.
I'm using Byron fuel 10%nitro;16%Oil; Ambient Temperature on 30Ëš Celsius ;Altitude: 500m.

As you can see on graph at 9000 rpm (half throttle) the cylinder head temperature goes up 136Ëš Celsius and at 10800 rpm (full throttle) the cylinder head temperature goes to 100Ëš Celsius.
Why it happens? Why the temperature decreases?

I wouldn`t worry about the temperature at all, set the needles correct and forget about the temperature as it will be fine. On the other hand if 10800 rpm is all you get I might advice a bit smaller prop, your engine is working too hard. What prop are you using?

Hi!
Probably because the engine runs leaner att that rpm!
I hope you don't take that engine heat information that you show on the graf to seriously.
Glow engines are set by ear! Not by heat information!

Just goes to show you, that you can control the mixture at idle and full throttle, but what's in between is only moderately under your control and at the whim of the manufacturer's quality control or design.

A 10X9 is a lot of prop. Drop to a 10X6 or 11X5 and let the engine sing.

Try the new props and look again (if you even want to). The big thing here is, how does it run? Next to no smoke trail at part throttle, yet it doesn't die when you stab the throttle. Glow plugs lasting. Happy with the power?........ No problems? Don't sweat it the heat.

Many times, too much prop (noise reduction reasons) header/tuned pipe, tuned mufflers, Pitts mufflers or bad carb design can play havoc on mid range mixture, then only an in flight mixture control will help. Slave an auxiliary channel to the throttle servo channel and build a mixture curve with one of the valves pictured or in the links. http://www.fourmostproducts.com/inde...399&product=35 OR http://www.perrypumps.com/prod03.htm These are good for engines up to .60 or so. Larger engines use http://www.jetmodelproducts.com/dynamax.htm OR http://shopbvmjets.com/zencart/index...roducts_id=105 Once it's properly setup, if the auxiliary channel has a trim knob, you can fine tune the overall mix at any time right from the transmitter. Just too cool.

Perhaps its simply more cooling air being thrown back when that high pitch prop finally gets up to its right working airspeed?

Ihave to agree, the 10X9 prop seems a bit big unless your plane weighs 2 pounds.
