Default ASP S91a very impressed

I ordered a ASP S91a from Hobbypartz.xom for $78.00 and I am very impressed with the engine.[X(] The engine did not come with instructions[:'(] so I went to the Global Hobbies web site and download the manual for a Megnum XLS 91 2 stroke since they are the same engine. I followed the break-in process and I am getting 10000RPM with a EVO 14x6 prop and I have a good 2200RPM idle I am using Omega 10% fuel and I have this engine installed on a 8 1/4lb Phoenix Extra 330S and looking forward to this weekend to really ring it out

The ASP and similar under other names are actually decent engines and good value, here is a review of the SK-90 which is very similar and probably from the same factory:

And another Sanye/ASP engine:

I suppose 10 K is OK for a .90 2 stroke engine that is not yet broken in.  But I get a lot more from a much older 90 red head ASP on 5% nitro fuel.  As I recall I got 11 K on a 14-6 prop, but got better performance and RPM on a 13-9 on a 60 size Easy Sport.

I just ran it again today and leaned it out a little more according th the instructions I got from Global. I now have 4 tanks run threw the S91a and I am getting 10500RPM with the EVO 14x6 prop I still have it a little on the rich side for the first flight this weekend on my Phoenix Extra 330S 60 size. I am going to get a Xoar 14x6 prop and see how well it does. I know some props can make a big difference on performance

I think that my ASP got 10,500 RPMor about there on the original muffler. With a laterdouble chamber muffler it got more. I recall 11,000 but memory may have rounded out the actual RPM.Irecall with that muffler it needed a Perry pump to run right as it did not have enough back pressure to pressurize the tank. I think the later ones had a venturi insert to help with fuel draw which may also lower performance.

In the manual I got from Global for the Magnum XLS 91 it says to try and get a prop that will turn in the 10000 to 11000 range for best performance. So far I have only test run the engine on the plane for the break-in process. It seems to run just fine so far but the first flight on the engine will be this weekend if weather holds For the price I paid for this engine I am really impressed with it so far.

Ive got the 91 4 stroke but I have not run it yet . All my other magnums ,asp have all been winners . Its time all the other manufactures took note . They may have a few less machings done to them but they run fine . Hobbyking has them for good prices as well . 1/3 of the price is hard to ignor . I havent had a dud engine yet besides a tt 10 which was replaced after it was lost at the service centre . Cheers the pope

Did my madien flight today on this nice ASP S91a engine. I had 5 perfect flight and the engine is just getting better with each flight. I am not a 3D pilot so I cannot tell you how well is does in pulling out of a hover but with my Phoenix 330S it has unlimited verticle with the Evo 14x6 prop. Great looking large loops, nice Hammer heads and great looking knife edges Good transition from idle to top end and I am getting 10500RPM[X(] on this new engine right now. I like this engine so much I am going to order another one from Hobbypartz. For $78.00 you cannot go wrong

I now have 20 flights on my Phoenix Extra 330S with this ASP S91a and I really like this engine. I have leaned it out a little more and adjusted the low end. I am now getting 11000 RPM with an evo 14x6 prop and I have a good 2000 RPM idle. I am using the new OS #6 hot glow plug with 10% Omega fuel. This plane and engine are a great combo and I went ahead and ordered another ASP S91a engine from Hobbypartz.com for $78.00[X(] and it just arrived today. I plan on putting it into a Seagull Cap 232
