Glow motor backplate
I bought an OS 15 CV-A DF unit with a pullstart. I wish to use the engine as a normal fixed wing unit and I therefore removed the pullstart. Why does the backplate extend into the engine, as it is normally the case with any 2-stroke motor? What would happen if I just fit a flat piece of alluminum plate to the back? I guess it would affect the gasflow but why?

RE: Glow motor backplate
Yeah, it serves the purpose of holding the connecting rod on as well as lessening the volume under the piston creating better vacuum for pulling in fresh air/fuel mixture.
