Tuned pipe for OS 55AX
I am looking for a tune pipe for an O.S. 55AX. It’s to beinstalled on a Phoenix TigersharkF20. I saw one at Tower but it does not seemto becomplete. The picture does not show a manifold. Anyone knows of any sites that sell them?
Thanks.

I think the 55 uses the same manifold as the .46 FX. I am sure they have it, The kits will not cost any less than buying individually. Also there is Mac's Mufflers site. http://macspro.com/

The MAC's tuned pipe headers would fit
The 2590, 2591, 2592, and 2593
http://www.macspro.com/headers_side.asp
They don't specifically show one for the OS 55AX but on their One Piece muffler page they show the same enghine list for the mufflers.
Tower might show the header for one of these numbers on their website.

i had a pipe on my 55ax.. i used the unmuffled pipe.... but this was back then before i knew how to tune the header for max rpm..... i cut off about 1.5 " from stock header and gained about 1k rpm.... i believe i i was getting a little over 13k on a mas 12x8,,, it was on a spot-on 50 pattern plane

I am not a very handy type, so I will order the pre-tuned one for sure.
They are quite long and I wonder how I will manage to screw my wing under in my Phoenix Tigershark.
I was told I had to attach it to the fuse, but it will be longer and go over the place to install the wing.
Thanks for your advice

Another way to go is to order a Jetts muffler for the 55. It is already pretuned and its less hassle than having to remove the pipe every day; also its cheaper. You can buy 1 from Horizon hobby http://www.horizonhobby.com/products...vo-46-60-EVOM1 .

The new improved for the OS55 Mac's 6720 muffler would perform between a stock muffler and the red Jett "tuned muffler" I don't recommend the blue Jett/Evolution for this engine.
A properly tuned pipe will gain 300 to 700 rpm over a tuned muffler or perhaps same rpm but a bit more prop than a tuned muffler, depending on what you want. A Quiet Pipe(#1050) $109[X(] produces about the same peak hp as standard pipes but the transition is improved.
Have a look at this old thread: http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/fb.asp?m=6357553

On the tests done here by Outlaw Hobby:

the 6720 tuned black muffler boasted way over 1,000 rpm's compared to the stock muffler. I have two of them on 55AX's and can agree with that. Night and day difference, they are super light, one piece, and no need for mounting like a tuned pipe.

Tuned mufflers really are not pre tuned. Rather you have to match their tuning with prop and fuel to get the engine to run in the RPM range the muffler is made for.

There is no such thing as a pretuned tuned pipe/header combination package being sold, unless you accept the parameters of the manufacturer, which, may not suit your model. The ones advertised as such have a specific size propeller in mind, plus other limiting factors to be considered.

Chris, that's a mighty fine and clean setup and photo. Is that the Kaos ARF just as Tower sells it out of the box? It looks too good somehow. The canopy looks great too. Does it fly as good as it looks? Is that tuned pipe a straight though and loud design?

RE: Tuned pipe for OS 55AX
"Here is a tuned pipe equipped OS 46 AX that really hauls. I think an old Rossi pipe, but any Macs for a .46/6.5 engine will do. "
Very nice, clean installation. I hate to display my ignorance, but what method is used to attach the pipe to the fuze?
