What to look for in used 4 stroke....
I am being offered a 48" Ultimate Biplane with a 4 stroke and would like to know what to look for when it comes to the engine. Is there a way of knowing if the engine is good without starting it? Any tips?
Thanks

See it run. There is no replacement for seeing it run at all throttle range. You can't go by compression, if the compression is weak it may be as simple as valve adjustment to fix. If you're not mechanically inclined, it may be a "pandora's box", rusted out bearings worn ring, worn valve seats.

RE: What to look for in used 4 stroke....
I have had very good luck with the 1000's of used engines i've bought. Unless they have been horribly abused, most are very durable. Two strokes are a little easier, good compression and smooth bearings general mean a good engine. Four strokes turn over differently, and as mentioned earlier the valves may need adjusting and or lifters stuck from sitting - both are an easy fix. Of course, some engines are just better than others from the start.
