Super Tigre 2300 with Canister designed for 23cc gas engine
I am playing with the idea of running a ST header and "Canister designed for 23cc-30cc gas engine" in my P-51. Will this type of exhaust give any performance increase since it is not a actual tuned pipe. My other options are the stock muffler with engine tilted for muffler to be in the bottom, or mount the engine inverted with a wrap around pitts muffler. Muffler pressure is a non issue since I will be running crankcase pressure/Cline regulator.

It would be an interesting experiment. I am sure it could be better than stock, but not as powerful as a tuned pipe, but also not peaky. Like the old mouse can mufflers or a Tower or Ultra.

The part that I am not sure about is the sizeing. Do. Glow engines use the same pipes as gas engines of the same displacement.? Also do you still tune the system somewhat by changing the header length, or is it just attach and run. I can get a 23 - 30 cc or a 26 - 30 cc size. Who knows they are probably the same pipe. Since they are comming out of china. The Johnson header is from the clearance bin at Central hobbies.

I do not remember anyone doing it before. But yeah you could experience a performance increase. The canister muffler tends to behave more like a Mousse Can muffler, so you could tune it to some extent, by inceasing or decreasing the overall length of the exhaust system.
But also as the hot exhaust gasses first leave the engine, the gasses need more expansion space. Then as the hot exhaust gasses cool off going farther away from the engine, the gas volume shrinks, and ultimately the exhaust outlet tip can be much smaller. This is in order to keep the exhaust gas speed about the same though the entire system. So in your case, even if you do nothing about tuning it, you should have some benefit from the cansister system.
Do run your engine with the current or stock OEM muffer and log the performance results. Then log the results using the canister system. If you make a change log the results for each change too. Make each change one at a time and log the results. Then you can get a better idea as to how well it works or not.

methanol engines run just as well on tuned pipes and canisters as gas engines. The tuned length in meth. is shorter though (pressure waves travel slower). That would be the only major difference.
