Default O.S. 55AX Vs 65AX

I would like to know if there is a diference in power between the 55 and the 65. As per the specs below, it seems the only difference isan additional weight of3.3 ounces.

Specs for the 55AX: 1.68 HP/16,000 RPM Weight: 18.52oz w/ muffler<o></o>

Specs for 65AX: 1.73 HP @ 16,000 RPM Weight: 21.8oz w/ muffler

Thanks,

Harry

what plane are you putting it in? 55AX is already pretty strong for some of the smaller 40 sized planes.

I just got myself a Sundowner 50. I know the 75 is heavy, even heavier than a 95AX.
But many told me the 95 is too heavy and the HP Sundowner 50 is very light and will do better with a smaller engine.
So I have reduced my list to a 55 or 65.

Thanks,

You cant really use manufacturers horsepower specs, they are completely out to lunch. Usually they are arrived at with a tiny little prop at an ungodly rpm which you could never use. Best to use posted rpm specs in the tach readings section, even then some of our members might post numbers that are a little "fishy?"

Have you used both engines? Do you know if there is any substantial difference?

Haven't heard much on the 65ax from the speed guys. The faster the more fun for the sundowner, if it turns out that you get more speed with it I would probably go with it.
