Default Enya 60 XF-4 VS. (new model) Enya 60 CXL

Hello,
Can anyone that has experience with the older and newer Enya 60 size engine please post your engine experience and rpm's/prop/fuel used? Side or rear exhaust.

One of the things I think I see is that the newer Enya's have a smaller carb (in the pictures), and a one piece crankcase.

If just have a newer one I would also be interested in rpm/prop/fuel used.

Thanks

I have the 60XF-III (essentially the same as the XF-4) and it's a very good engine with AAC construction and, like all Enyas, never seems to wear out. The only prop I ever used on it was an old Master 12x6 that turned 11,700 revs with zero nitro fuel. Hand starting was a breeze and it never burned out a plug.

I also have the latest Enya 61 CXLRS which is the rear exhaust version intended for CL stunt but the only change from the RC version is having a venturi instead of a carb and I believe a lower compression cylinder head button because a high compression button is an option for the CL version. Going by Enya's figures, it puts out slightly more power (in RC form) than the 60X but is 5 ounces lighter because it's based on the 50CX. Piston/liner construction is as unique as was the AAC for the 60X because it uses a ringed piston in a brass liner that appears to be ABN but isn't quite. The liner actually is nickel plated with a silicon carbide composite, sometimes called Nikasil, which is similar to what's used in Ferraris, Lambos and F1 cars so chances are it'll never wear out. I can't really give any worthwhile RPM figures because of the way mine is used for CL stunt but as a rough guide it's turning a 13.5x5 Bolly prop at 9000 revs in a 4 stroke just barely cracking into a brief 2 stroke and once again with zero nitro fuel. It's a very nice engine indeed .

Hi downunder,

I saw a post you had made saying that you raised the compression on the 60xf to run better on 0 percent fuel. Can you explain what you did please?
I only run 0 to 5 percent nitro in my engine.

Now I'm wondering how well the 60xf and the new 60 C models will run without mods.

Thanks.

Hi!
The only thing is removing the head shim.
But if you use 5% nitro ...just run it like it is!

I didn't think the 60xf and the 60 C came with a head shim instead all ready.

Both the 60X and the new 61CX run perfectly well on zero nitro but I've made improvements on both types so long as you never want to use nitro again . Neither of them use head shims.

For the 60X I made a special head just to find the ideal compression which turned out to be 13.5:1 and gave a bit over 20% boost in HP on the same prop/fuel/plug combination. I lost all my data in a computer crash but from memory I found that the original squish clearance with the standard head was very wide at about .045" so there was enough "playing room" to just shave the head to get the required compression and still have a decent head clearance. I have to say that in the air this made a remarkable difference in performance especially when the prop (a 12x6) unloaded in a fairly shallow dive, it just screamed!

For the rear exhaust 61CXLRS (the same would apply to the SE version) I made a new head button (yayyy, I didn't have to make a complete cylinder head ) because the useable squish clearance could only get me from the standard 8.8 compression to about 10.5 which wasn't enough. I ended up with 12.4, mainly because I'd skimmed slightly too much from the combustion chamber bowl, but it was close enough not to warrant messing around a bit more. Because I use that engine for CL stunt I run a very large prop (13.5x5) so peak revs are very much lower than what would be normal for RC. However on the test stand the standard button gave peak revs of 8800 while the new button gave 9500 which was a 26% increase in HP.

Have you talked with Enya any about your findings?

I'm sure that Enya would know about it already but they'd also know that, regardless of what the instructions might say about fuels, Americans would be throwing buckets of nitro into them and getting a bad reputation when the engines started blowing up or whatever . This actually happened with the very early Saitos which had a very high compression (I believe around 16:1) and suddenly they were being returned for repairs. Saito learned their lesson and dropped the compression radically. I've just got my hands on a NIB Irvine 61RLS, which is kind of Irvine's answer to an OS Hanno Special, and its compression is 13.6:1 so I won't be messing with that one .

The awesome backfires of those high compression Saitos didn't endear them to owners.

They're a 13mm and the Enya P/No is [link=https://cs206.xbit.jp/~w041133/store13/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=3_20&products_id=391]S5090[/link].

Figures. The older 60XF carbs will not fit then.

If you need the Enya 15mm carburetor, I've got one I don't need.

Has anyone been able to get a Enya 61 CXL and run it in a RC application?
