What happened to the OS 65 LA?
#26
Lets hope they are making way for a new line. On the old Model Airplane News .60 engine shootout, the LA 65 matched the 61FX number per number and throttled better. It was a snub for fancy carbs and ball bearings.

I would like to find out any info about CAO, current manufacture of the OS 15LA Engines ?
Thank you very much,
Gene

I thought only the .46 was Chinese. I guess I was wrong. I would not worry about that anyway. Everything is CNC. As long as materials are good. OS would likely control that well.

My Feedback: (2)
I suspect that OS has already stopped producing the 15LA and Tower is just selling off stock. I don't have any inside information, just my guess. I suspect OS builds many thousands of engines in a production run then does not do another production run unless the engine sells well.
I now have almost a complete line of LAs. 10, 15, 25, 40 and 65, just missing the 46. I like them. They just keep going and going. No bearings to go bad.

There is something to be said for a good bushing engine. In general they are not made to the power levels of ball bearing engines but they do tend to be very reliable. I have a 46 that ran on my Dazzler for a time and it did a great job with no evidence of liner peeling. I did some testing with my LAs using a special Powermaster heli fuel with 15% nitro and 23% low viscosity oil. They both loved it.

I think bushing engines are underrated. Normally they have cheapened them with small airbleed carbs and other cost saving measures, which is fine for a beginners engine. Many years ago, Supertiger sold bushings to replace ball bearings for some sizes of motors to be used for some events that specified bushing engines. The difference was barely measurable. After all, isn't the most highly produced engine of all time, a plain bearing - Small Block Chevy.
