We'll I finally got to burn a little nitro today. It wasn't all good though. Me being me, and sick of waiting for the wind to quit, I said screw it and went to the field even though the wind was gusting around 20 or so and changing direction.the flying wasn't too bad, it was the landing part that got me. Two planes at that. Not bad though, I can fix em both in an afternoon. All part of the fun.good thing I love to build.

Pardon the ignorance, but I have no clue what that means. If it's about me, I can only imagine though. To make matters worse, the first one was a maiden of a 35 year old Goldberg type high wing mystery plane that I finished for a buddy. Boy, wha nan a hole I am. I told him I'd either fix it for him, it's only a motor mount and firewall, or I'd build him the kit of his choice. 40 size that is. She had a probably 30 year old thunder tiger 21 that ran flawlessly if I might add. The other was a great planes kit built RV-4 , but that one is just the landing gear plate ripped out. No biggie.

Is that an old design motor? Can't be too old with the schneurle ports. I don't follow the Enya stuff. I like the two piece case, you can run them in reverse if you want, and it is easier to change the rear bearing.

Wind has been blowing too hard to fly so I have been busy working on my cars. Dusted off the roadrunner convertible and took mama to the drive in movies last night. Seen Captain America Winter Soldier and Need for Speed. Got home at 3 am, but it was fun.

I have a few Enyas and love them all. I have (2) 4-strokes and an SS30bb R/C. Bar-none the best throttling engine I own. A diet consisting of 5% nitro 25% castor is all I've ever fed it and it rewards me with single backflip starts and an impeccable record for only ever having a single glow plug in it from new to now 4-5 gallons later. Treat it right and it'll last forever.

Hey SteveG!! Hang in there my friend, the winds really ARE subsiding. I had nearly my whole stable out today (11 planes - 3 of them control-liners) and every one of them came home ready to go again (a true rarity).
Actually got some GOOD thermal time on the Butterfly. That hasn't happened in a couple years. Had her up to about 300' and noticed that she was climbing with the engine one click above idle (OS 26FS - 4-stroke) - wasn't long before she was nearly specked-out. Took awhile to spiral her back down to a reasonable height on the east end of the field. When I turned her around again and went back to the west side she started climbing again, just like before. Ended up running out of fuel at about the 50 minute point (4 ounce tank) and kept her in the air, dead-stick for another 10 minutes. Not bad for a plane that's got tricycle gear and a big boxy engine hanging out in the breeze.
All the other planes got good flights too. Great day!!

This happens to me every year, so I've come to expect it. I seem to have a nasty string of bad luck in the early season, then it's done. I'm hoping that was it, and it's now over. Well see next time I go out. I just won't bring anything too nice next time just in case. Every year it seems the same way. I don't get mad anymore though when I have a mishap. It's all part of the hobby.

Didn't see much new at Toledo regarding glow engines but did get some news from Great Planes that two of our favorites might be redesigning their lines and be back in stock soon.

Four Star 20? About what year was Sig making them? Interesting! Thanks

Please sign me up! I've been addicted to the smell of glow engines since 1955 or so. I used to pour some Cox, (red can!) fuel into the lawnmower gas.... great aroma! Then there was the Fox fuel (Missle Mist) in a blue can with another great smell. One time when in my 20's my Chevy Malibu ran out of gas. I remembered my CL flying box was still in the trunk so I filled the bulb with glow fuel and injected into the carb and got her going enough to make it up the hill and to a gas station. Anyone else started loosing their hearing at a young age with little .049's?

The 4 Star 20 is one of SIGs newer kits, I remember seeing it as a prototype in R&D and I have only been associated with them for maybe 10 years? http://sigmfg.com/cgi-bin/dpsmart.ex...rt_20Models_01

Friend of mine tried an experiment with his nearly-new Citroen BX ... this was 20-odd years ago. He thought he'd run it on glow fuel, Castor, 5% nitro.
It blocked the oil galleries and destroyed the engine. The guys at Citroen replaced the whole engine under warranty, but were mystified as to why this should have happened (as you might imagine, my friend did not mention the glow fuel).
He was a very naughty boy, wasn't he? The perfect example of Moral Hazard, because he probably wouldn't have experimented, if the vehicle was not under Warranty.
