I can't imagine the glow fuel wrecking the oil passages in the Citroen. Injectors maybe, could plug up the catalytic converter though. I bought a new 920 Virago motorcycle back in the day, and put some castor in for breakin. It smelled just like a model motor. I put old fuel in the lawnmower just to get it out of the way. No cat. there.

That's what those auto companies get for putting silly things like warranties on cars - serves them right (OMG, I can't believe he actually got away with it! Absolutely AMAZING!).

There's noting like the smell of burnt methane and nitro in the early evening air. Castor oil helps too.

In the 70's , I belonged to a club that had a very secluded field with a very great landowner. We were about 1500 feet back from the road. At the beginning of the season , we mixed up a 55 gal barrel of 10% nitro fuel, so no-one had to transport & store fuel. One evening, the landowners son had run the tank very low on hid dad's new Lincoln, so he put in about 18 gal from our barrel. He made it just to the road, and floored it. Don't know just what let loose, but the engine was totally ruined.

Note to self; if ever you run out of fuel on the way home from flying, start walking. Or, just get fuel on the way TO the field. Lol.

Mythbusters tested using moonshine in various cars unmodified to see if they'd run on it or not. The old carbureted car and the early EFI car and had no luck keeping them running. The brand new Camaro ran on it albeit using almost twice the fuel and yet it didn't ruin the engine. I wonder what glow fuel would do to ruin an engine...? Interesting.

The air/fuel mixture ratios for gasoline versus glow fuel are quite a bit different. Where you have to run a fairly lean air/fuel ratio with gasoline, you need to run a much more rich air/fuel ratio with glow fuel. So if you run a gasoline engine off of straight glow fuel, it will be way too lean then. Plus you have oil mixed in the fuel and that also makes the fuel somewhat more thick to flow through the jets in the carb too. So yes, I can see someone burning up a gas engine using glow fuel in it. Now you could mix the two together to some extent, but you would want more gasoline than glow fuel in the mix though. Finally, there is the effect that the glow fuel would very likely react with the rubber parts in the fuel system too. But that might not be a short term problem. Hard to say, I never tried it though.

A lot of new cars can burn the 85% ethanol mix. I think the computer adjusts the mixture. It is fairly similar to methanol, rusts the tank, wrecks the rubber tubing, eats away at the carb... A friend of mine tried it in his motorcycle and car. It was a lot of trouble. I just told him what to do to make the bike go, and a week later he did it. He was quite happy, he went out on the expressway, and nearly rear ended a guy when he pulled the throttle. He raised the compression, and opened the jets on the carb. The first day there was a puddle in the garage. The carb O ring dissolved. He changed it and it worked fine. His car went good as well. Supercharger, high compression, gas or methanol. Fastest car I was ever in. Eventually the block split between the cylinders a couple years later. Real glow fuel would plug up the cat. eventually on a new car, as would 2 stroke weedwacker fuel I would guess.

I would think the catalytic converter would get hot enough to burn any oil up that made it that far.. Moreover, many catalytic converters have platinum in them. Maybe any leftover methanol vapor in he exhaust would make the cat get hotter?

I think I'm in getting in over my head...

Yeah, that's why I don't live any farther north. I got to fly a little bit today, although it was rather windy. Planes came home intact, so it was a good day. I gotta tell ya, I'm gettin' a bit tired of this wind crap myself.

Think SPRING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Preach on, Brotha'! +1! It was a bit chilly when I drove to work yesterday, the radio said there was a wind chill.... In the middle of APRIL! What the hell is up with that?

edit: added photo. What the thermometer showed in my pickup on the ride to work. It's April 15th!

They have idle size props? Never heard of such a thing. If you push a normal igniter on the head it will glow while you are pushing it. This works till your hand gets tired. They sell them at Cox International for about ten bucks.

Yep, whatever stays on. Positive or negative doesn't matter for the glow plugs. The 1 & 1/2 V does. Alligator clips, or whatever is fine if it doesn't short out. I think Idle may be translated wrong, may be "correct" or "right" I can only guess. My wife says funny stuff still once in a while, so I am used to this.
