Okay guys. My "Eleanor" arrived. I have an unboxing video I'll get on YouTube later tonight. Thought I'd post a few stills.

Here's a valve cover. Only one though. .46-4C version I. Small bearings, same size valves, lower power than he 46-4C II. It's barely been run but had some rust and corrosion inside. Need to get the corrosion off the aluminum inside yet, cams came out pretty good though. It's back together but I want to get the Al. cleaned up a bit better before I run it. I'm gonna get a spare Bowman ring for it as I've done for all of my engines too.

Tell me about it! I got antsy last winter and broke in my Jett .35 when it was about 40F outside. Too cold - froze the fingers. Need 50F+ to run engines and not completely freeze the digits. I have a few new engines to run. I have a NIB ST GS45 ABC (Italy) sitting here keeping my Enya collection company.

I've re-ringed two engines and each engine picked up 500-800rpm over the old factory ring using Frank's piston rings. The ring end gap is much smaller and are lower tension so they seal better and make more power. Generally. Not all engines behave the same way, but most folks notice stronger flipping compression, more power, and lower/smoother idling qualities. Some guys change out stock piston rings and install Franks before an engine ever gets a drop of fuel even. I use Bowman rings because of the above listed things as well as I'd rather deal with a friendly and well skilled guy than some hunyuck hocking NOS factory parts for 200% markup on eBay. $12-14/ring plus a little USPS shipping aint a bad price either.

They're pretty sick. Not for the faint of heart or the guys that like to fiddle. These things are a little more time consuming to setup but once there, look out! Hearing one of these things hitting 20,000rpm+ in a dive is just insane. If you fly small stuff, I think the .25's are around $275 plus shipping and stuff. Probably about 40% more expensive than a new OS of the same size, but if you get the AAC liner, you'll really see how much lighter they are compared to the other engines on the market.

Here's a picture of the 56 with exhaust on the scale. Weighs a teeny bit less less than a typical .46 with stock muffler.

Hmmmm when I read the post that I uploaded (which originally contained Bowman's URL, something, somewhere changed the URL to a bogus web link. Did I do something to annoy the Internet gods???
Just in case I was about to violate some cosmic rule, instead of making the correction, I will describe that I had found the link by searching Yahoo for "Bowman piston ring". His price sheet came right up.

Long pipes do stress the rod quite a bit more than a tuned muffler or stock type exhaust, but Dub builds them pretty stout. I'll post a picture of the rod in this thing when I'm off work. It's pretty beefy. As far as overall long term longevity, I think they last a long time.
The ABC engines will tend to bellmouth the liner over time, the AAC cylinders do not so when the piston wears out in an AAC engine a new piston can be fitted to the original liner. And by over time, I mean a LONG time. My .35 still gets stuck at TDC if I flip it slowly and it has 3 gallons through it. The reason these engines wear out? (I'd guess) Lean runs. A single hard lean run could ruin a Jett.

I am posting the instruction sheets that Dub included in the box my .56 came in. Just in case anyone here gets a bug up their butt to buy one of these beastly machines, these instructions will prime you for what lies ahead. The first sheet pertains more to the high performance nature of the LX engines. The second two pages are for normal tuned muffler equipped engines. The first sheet would be the most important page.

Interesting. Sounds like a whole different ball game. I like where he says " this is almost a racing engine" will it be getting mounted to an airframe? Or to something else?

The main things to know about a Jett - keep is rich and keep the rpm up (like 1,000rpm rich of peak). Do those two things and the engine will be happy.
